I have noticed that many Mondials have 94 348 wheels on them which I happen to think look very nice on these cars.

Does anyone have any input on these wheels? If they too think they make a nice upgrade? Pros and Cons of these wheels? A good price to pay for wheels in good condition, not including tires?

I fitted them to mine as the original TRX tyres needed replacing and were wockingly expensive. For the same price here in Oz I could get a set of 348 wheels and some new rubber.
You need to fit the 55mm 348 wheel bolts as well as the TRX wheel bolts are too short. I bought these from superperformance in the Uk.
The car handles really nicely on the new wheels, quieter, better bump absorption, more grip, more predictable in the wet and dry. These benefits are really down to the rubber rather than the wheels.
I believe the 348 wheels weigh much the same as the smaller TRX wheels.
The only issue I had here in Oz was finding rubber to fit but I don't believe that's an issue in other countries.
Front tyre size is 215x50 and rears 255x45

I paid $700 for tires and wheels in good condition, including center caps. The wheel bolts I used were 80 mm, and they just poke through the backside of the mounting holes. Anything shorter would be unsafe IMHO. The bolts (chrome) cost $300! I sold my TRX wheels and tires for $500.

Isn't there a saying that the angle leads the flat part meaning it should rotate with the angled part leading?

Greg, it's flat part leading. Ask Hank he's the expert spotting the ones installed in the wrong way. I learned from him with mine.

when you have a mondial be patient.eat bologna sandwich's,water on your cherrios and buy a set of 360 rims.you will have to buy 360 lug bolts but look at my profile.I bought the 2004 360 modina modular rims and I believe it transformed my mondial into a true Ferrari.I had to make no alterations or modifications other than lug bolts.good luck to you

I must add that for those of you not sure which way round the wheels fit, each of the 4 wheels has its own individual part number which can be found on the various Ferrari and specialist web sites we all use. These part numbers are embossed in the wheel on the reverse side so you should always check that you have 4 different wheel numbers otherwise for example you may have 2 left side fronts and would never know. It was an expensive thing that Ferrari did and on every other car I know there is no left and right wheel fitments, just front and rear.

I checked this to ensure I also had the tires fitted the correct way round as some tires are marked Inside and Outside and others have a directional arrow.

I purchased the 348 wheels, had them completely powder coated refurbished in an oven, bought 4 brand new Continental Contact Sport3 tires, balanced and fitted for less than the cost of the 4 trx tires alone!

With 17 inch wheels you get a better selection of rubber to choose from and the ride and handling has improved as well as filling the wheel arches better than before.

I my own opinion is that the 348 are the ONLY wheels that improove the look of the car and also keep it look stock. These Wheel even fit better on a Mondial than on a 348. They belong there. Other wheels look added or upgraded. But that is just me......

OK, I'll go against the grain a little here. The 348 wheels spokes are pretty "thick" looking. Don't get me wrong, I love them. I have a 348 and am probably in the minority of 348 owners that like the 348 wheels. A lot of 348 owners switch to 355 or 360 wheels. On the right Mondial, I think they look great. For instance, the red Mondial Coupe above. The fact it has the lower sills painted to match the body is what does it for me. It makes the side profile of the Mondial "thicker" and matches the wheels. Obviously a black car has the same effect. Otherwise I think the wheels are a bit too big looking for the car.

Just my 2 cents. My view probably affected by the fact I own a 348 as well as a Mondial.

It's great to see everybody doing their own thing.

Bought the Mondial first. That was about 15 years ago. New nothing really about Ferrari at the time, other than they were sweet looking cars. A distant friend owned a Mondial. I took a ride in his once and was sold. This was around 1998. I was looking at 328's and Mondials. I couldn't afford a 328, so went with the Mondial. I wanted one with the body color bumpers, so found a red/tan 3.2 Cabrio. Living in SoCal, it was a Cabrio or nothing. In the past 15 years, I've had the top up only a few times. Seeing the beautiful lines of the Coupe now, it would be hard to choose. Knowing nothing of Ferrari, I just drove the car. Changed oil when needed, drove some more. I went 10 years before a major. Not sure even when the previous one was done. The cars been a dream. No electrical problems. No oil leaks. Nothing really. I did crack an oil cooler. My fault I think. Car was hot and fan was running. Shut the car off, but just had to listen to the radio for some odd reason. That meant turning the key, which let the fan run without oil running through it. I think that shocked it. Maybe not? Anyways, that's the only expense I've had with it.

Always wanted a 348. I bought it for it's looks. While not for everyone, I love it. I always liked the Testarossa, but it was a bit too big and square looking for me. When the 348 came out, I knew some day I'd have one. Well, 3 years ago or so, I found a yellow/black 94 Spider. Again, went with the convertible. Already having a red/tan Mondial meant a different color for the 348. The 348/355s are stunning in yellow. It's been pretty pain free the last 3 years. Had a rad hose clamp come loose and scare me a little. Now have a throwout bearing that's on it's way out. But the car runs great. Knew more about Ferrari, so bought a well sorted car. Fresh major.

Bought both cars without a PPI. The Mondial, didn't know better. But just worked out. Best car I've ever owned. The 348, it just looked and drove "right". While no mechanic, I had been around Ferrari long enough to know what's what. Honest seller, receipts, car in perfect condition.

Owning 2 Ferraris is a pain in the ass. I'm always cleaning something. The Mondial will probably go someday, but I've been saying that for 3 years. Hard to sell something you love.

To the OP, sorry about all this. I guess owning a 348, I'm so used to seeing them (the wheels) on it that they look a little off on other cars to me. But that's just me.

    Gotta go wash the Mondi.......

My thoughts/opinion as well. To add, the Mondial t has a more modern appearance so the 348 wheels can be a nice fit.

For some reason, I've never been a fan of the 348 wheels. But lately they're been growing on me. :)

I was surprised to see the number of 348 (& other) wheels on just a general google website search for Mondi images...

Just proof that 390mm wheels are a pain ;) (and that there are even fewer stock F 16" wheel alternatives available for M than 308)

Actually, most of us purists love the look of the TRX on the Mondial. Unfortunately, our piggybanks are unlike the fat wallets carried by vintage Ferrari owners.

In today's dollar exchange that would be $1926 for a set of four... not counting shipping, tax, mounting, balancing, etc.

Hence the intent of this thread.

But thanks for the suggestion. :)

I have never considered different wheels for my Mondial until I saw the 360 Mods on this black t. I've been looking for a set ever since. If they can be installed with no modifications, I believe I'll pull the trigger. IMO It gives the car a great updated aggressive look I never thought was possible. Guys I'm really hooked!

Well........Your search is over! Here's a set on CL that I ran across. I have no affiliation.

    360 modena ferrari wheels

I do have a set of lugs available though if you end up needing a set.
