Hi everyone, this is my first post! Is there any information on the kerb weight differences for the different 348 body types? Normally theres a significant weight penalty for open top versions. Im currently on the lookout for a TB but might consider others
According to the repair manual the difference is 5 kg/11 lbs, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's fairly close. I doubt you'd notice a difference in the weights but you will in chassis rigidity. The tb is a better track car. The ts is more fun on a nice day.
Thanks mike, I'd been unable to find a definitive answer, it must be the same floor designed as an open top primarily and then the roof on the TB just adds more rigidity. In comparison the weight difference between a BMW M6 coupe and the convertible variant is vast! Additional floor strenghthening and all the gear for the power roof etc vs carbon roof on the coupe. I feel better about a TS now.
For the benefit of future searches.. Dry weights: 348tb 1393kg 348ts 1398kg 348 spider 1478kg So a difference of 85kg between tb and spider, not found any official info for the GTB/GTS.
For the 1993 348 GTB, Ferrari.com says: 1370 kg (dry) And for the 1993 348 GT Competizione: 1180 kg (dry) Ferrari 348 GTB (1993) - Ferrari.com Ferrari 348 GT Competizione (1993) - Ferrari.com
Good site but it states 1370kg for the spider so unsure of the accuracy, also lists the tb and ts as the same weight at 1393kg. My source is the maintenance manuals.. Although I've just noticed conflicting info for the spider.. I think the heavier one 1478kg is the US version, 1440kg for Europe? Oh well we get a rough idea! As an additional data point the US technical (owner's) manual for the TB/TS shows a curb weight of 3252 lbs without any mention of whether that's for a TB or TS. I haven't weighed mine yet but from what I've seen posted in the past that number is likely pretty darned close. Strangely, the Spider technical manual claims a curb weight of 3174 lbs. I doubt that number.
Was passing by my local quarry and I knew they had a scale…for fun I went on it. I was curious how accurate the driver's manual was The weight on the scale said 3620 pounds (with me in it) I weigh 180 and it just had a full tank of gas. Assuming 1 gallon of gas weighs 6 pounds = 120 Pounds 11 litters of motor oil + 4 liters of gear box oil is about 4 gallons and oil is about 7 pounds a gallon = 28 pounds 26 liters for window washer fluid, coolant, steering fluid, brake fluid = 6.6 gallons x 8.3 lbs per gallon for water = ~55 Pounds 1991 Ferrari Manual says dry weight is 1536 Kg = 3385 pounds so 3620 - me - all fluids = 3237 Pounds so a gap of about 148 pounds (exactly the weight of 22 gallons of gas and 11 litters of motor oil)... I believe Dry Weight counts these in it's figures...so go figure!?! My recommendation is to find a rock quarry near by and go on it (just ask nicely, and I don't see why they wouldn't let you) Then you'll get the 'real weight' Cheers Image Unavailable, Please Login
To the South Bay Stooges, I think that FBB has corner weights for balancing his race car. would be fun to weigh our cars at the next Stoogefest!
