Seriously looking for a 348 Spider. Trying to sort out any differences between the 94 and 95. I've noticed that the early 94s seem to have the front of the engine cover colored black. I've also noticed some have the "348 spider" emblem on the back. Are there any mechanical differences between the two? Found a beautiful 94 yellow one that has an antenna on the right door. The owner believes it to be the original radio antenna. Haven't seen that before. Any ideas? Any additional info would be helpful. Looking to join the brotherhood soon. Currently driving an 86 Mondial Cabriolet which has been nice......but it's not a 348...........Lou

    Welcome to FerrariChat Lou! :):)

That is a gorgeous car mate! Personally, I dont think there were too many changes from the 94-95 Spiders. Nothing worth getting excited about anyways! :p:p

The engine covers were colour coded around 93. So it should be painted on the 94-95 Spiders also. I have a friend that owns a yellow/black 93 Spider and his car has the 348 Spider badge on the rear of the engine cover and his engine cover is also colour coded. :):)

I dont think that antenna is factory. Looks after market to me. ;);)

Good luck with it brother!! :D:D

I have the 348 spider badge on a 1993 348 spider. Anyhow I guess you can buy the badges from ricambi or hill engeneering or eurospares. I think you are not going to be dissapointed. great car, needs some pampering, but the sound and driver feel is increadible.

Antenna is not stock. Nothing was changed from 94 to 95, except the engine cover colors. Great open car with amazing sound, good luck with your purchase.

    Lou, I have a 1995 Yellow spider.

there werent too many changes between 94 and 95. The back engine panel is definitely the car color in the 95's but I thought they did this in 94 as well, i could be wrong. The antenna is after market, the spider antenna is located in the front windshield. it is a small line down the center. I think they only made the 348 spider badge in 1993 and nothing came on the 94/95 models. Mine does not have the badge. if you want, you can get an aftermarket, but personally, I would leave it off. Good color choice btw! FYI, there were only approximately 60 yellow spiders imported into the US!

Houston 348 is correct with regards to the antenna. It is a thin strip in the center of the glass. I would check to make sure that the winshield is factory Ferrari, sometimes people put aftermarket windshields that do not have the antenna line going through it.
I have a 1994 and the rear deck lid was originally painted in black. I had it changed to color match the car. It is my understanding that all 95 are color matched and a majority or 94's are black.
    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response. I didn't realize that there was a 1993 348 Spider. I have now noticed more 94's with the black engine cover. I'm guessing that maybe the early 94's had them. I will be looking at the car in the next few weeks. I will pay attention to the front windshield to see whether it has the antenna or not. Pic attached of windshield. Maybe you guys have seen the car for sale....it's the only yellow one I can find....spider that is. It's currently on cars.com Haven't carfaxed it yet. If you have time to look at it....please let me know your thoughts.......thanks again..... Lou

    Hello Lou
Just to clarify, to the best of my knowledge all US cars are either 1994 or 1995.
My car which is titled as a 1994 was actaully built in February 1993.
The First unveiling of the car was on Rodeo Drive in February (I think) 1993 (positive), but all the US 348 spiders produced in 1993 were all titled as 1994.
    Hope this helps.

That antenna is absolutely 100%, no questions asked, aftermarket. And unfortunately, not a great mounting location either. With later glass, it's built into the windscreen. On earlier cars, it is often on the rear quarter panel. On targas, they are sometimes found on the rollbar section.... but I've never seen one on the A-pillar.

My understanding is that NONE of the 348's shipped to North America with a factory radio. The wiring was in the car, but it at PDI when they got installed.

Is it VIN 96988? If so, I considered buying that car a couple of years ago when it was for sale in New York. I remember the antenna. Richard at Competizione (FChat sponsor and highly-respected in the community) strongly advised me to buy it. But in the end, the seller wouldn't budge on the price, so I moved on.

If it is VIN 96988, I have a copy of the major service receipt from Aug 06. It looks to be a competent service, done at WWoC, but there were no extras (like water pump or bearings). If you want a copy, send me a PM and I'll email it to you.

Yes that's the car. I have that service receipt but thanks for the offer.
I thought it was a bit strange about the water pump also. I believe the
current owner only put 2K miles on it since then. Glad to hear it sounds
like a solid car. Thanks for your post. Any additional info appreciated.

Sorry, I don't really know much more about it, and I never actually saw it in person. It was for sale at Bul Auto Sales in Albany when I was considering it -- not a typical place to look for a Ferrari. The owner there was using it as his daily driver while it was for sale. I did speak with Kevin Chuck at WWoC but he didn't have any further records on the car other than that last major. It looks like it could be a great car, subject to PPI of course.

You might consider a post in the Mid-Atlantic section to see if anyone there knows the car (or might be willing to go look at it for you).

1995 348 Spiders are the *only* 348's to have an active air pump for emissions (this was then used on the 355's). All 348's prior to the '95 spiders have passive one-way valves for emissions.

from all of the responses and data on the car, sounds like the car would be a "go" to buy

Actualy there ARE mechanical diff's from 94 to 95. I made a list when I was looking for mine. The first that came to mind was the change over from R12 to R134a for the A/C. And down the road that may turn out to be a pretty nice advantage to have. I'll post the rest when I find my old list
