Finally got around to installing the Quantum Racing suspension kit. It comprises of four adjustable dampers and 4 springs. The items are a lot lighter than stock units and also more modern. Andyhls has had them in his 348 for a while now and he swears by them. I've only driven on the road so far so haven't had the chance to exploit them. Hopefully will be doing a trackday in 2 weeks so will check them out then. It's on the softest setting at the moment (I live in london) and it is stiffer than standard. Not as stiff as some sport springs I tried a few years ago. It's livable and not that bad to be honest. I was worried that it would be undrivable in town and give me a bad back. The ride height is a little higher than I would like and I may lower it. Still have high speed stability problems so I'm thinking now it's either crappy steering rack, bad wheels or just bad aerodynamics. More investigation needed on that. So... cars's had cambelt change/service from my good friends at QV London and I'm now going to start driving it a bit more. Last year I think I drive it 10 times. Will post pics up when I take some.
Just to add.... When it was serviced, I asked them to check the clutch. I've had the car for 6 years and 20,000 miles now and never changed it. I have no idea when it was last changed either. It's been driven in town a lot, in heavy traffic a lot, revved a lot, thrashed a bit and there's still lots of meat on the clutch. Very impressed with that. Just need to get that ****ing Le Mans engine in it now!!!!!
Sounds very impressive Sy. Good to hear you are going to drive it more mate. Looking forward to seeing pics, of course.
Perhaps you'd like for someone to roadtest that engine?????? I may be able to work that into my schedule. I'd even do it in my car for you. That way if bad things happen, you won't get oil all over your car. That's just the kind of friend I am!
Ahhh... can't remember. I think the fronts were 400. See pic below. Rears, I can't remember at all. They were supplied by quantum. When you coming over to take them out? Here you go: www.quantumracing.co.uk Unit 9, Station Approach Ind. Est. Pulborough, RH20 1AQ Telephone: +44 (0)1798 875199 Ask for Patrick There's no part number as I recall. Just ask about the 348 suspension kit I purcahsed. Here's a couple of pics. The kit is just 4 dampers and 4 springs. The other bits in the pictures have nothing to do with it. I also got 8 bump stops as well which are not pictured Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just washed the 348 this morning and I was having a look at the ride height. Looks too high and also too level as I belive it's supposed to be lower at the front. It will be going off to a main dealer for them to sort it out in the next few weeks.
From Quantum Racing: All of our shocks are monotube type and manufactured in house. Our single adjustable dampers have a single shaft adjuster that varies bleed past the piston and shim stack. On the 348, adjustment is made with an allen key, unless an optional clicker adjuster fitment is specifically requested. The damper can be mounted using the std top mount or with our aftermarket one that uses a rubber doughnut or our competition type with the monoball fitting. If you can advise me the type of use the vehicle will get (road, track day, race or a % mixture) I will try to recommend the best fitment type The double adjustable dampers we can supply for the 348 have a bump canister. The adjuster on the canister restricts the flow of fluid displaced from the shaft to manipulate bump damping. The shaft adjuster continues to act upon rebound damping. Double adjustable dampers are £615 each plus VAT and shipping. The canister is at the end of a hose and can be positioned if space is restricted. Single adjustable damper = £410.00ea Spring kit = £49.50ea Top mount = £75.00ea Total = £2138 car set Double adjustable damper = £615.00ea ( hose mount TBA) Spring kit = £49.50ea Top mount = £75.00ea Total =£ 2958 car set
Finally managed to drive the 348 properly for the first time last night. Have only driven it a few times this year with long gaps in between. My friend Adz came to my house and we convoyed to Central London with his Ferrari 430. I had forgotten the power of the 348 and 15 minutes into the drive when everything was warmed up, I was like wow!!! 30 minutes into the drive and I shouted to Adz in the walkie talkie "This car feels f***** incredible it's like a go kart". Took it onto central London where the roads can be quite bad and drove it around with other Ferrari's and a Gallardo Superleggera and the suspension/handling feels so much better than the old one. I've got it on the softest setting at the moment and I'll stiffen it up in the next few days. Haven't tried the car at high speed yet but up to 90 it feels good. Think I'll go for another drive later.
Installed the clicker knobs on the dampers so I can adjust the stiffness. Turned them all the way to hard and the cars ride is a lot harsher, but boy... does it feel good to drive.
That's funny, I was just wondering (again) about what nice options are out there for suspension upgrades. Sounds like this one is working out well so far! Can you PM me the damage on these? Thanks! Edit...ahhh, nevermind, found the $$. Read the thread, Tripp, read the thread
Only time I have to compare against is Silverstone and I'm not doing that again until April. Plus I had the suspension settings all changed, so it won't really be an accurate tests. On the softest setting it's not as harsh as I thought it would be. However, in my opinion the best upgrade on a 348/355 are AP Racing brakes. That would be at the top of my list.
