Does your 348 require 3-4 seconds to build up oil pressure? Oil warning lamp lights up during Startup? One potential cause is a warped non return valve on the French-built Purflux filter (OEM Ferrari). Older, problematic models had part #130623 or #191462, now superceded by improved part #197654

For non-track, pure street use, the Axxis "Metal Master" brake pads are the BEST for reducing brake noise, giving good stopping power and minimizing brake dust on 348's. And they're only $56 a pair. http://www.buybrakes.com/axxis/apps-Ferrari.html

Momo steering wheels are direct OEM fit, no adapter needed for 348's. The 350mm outer-diameter Momo size is the most "common" (pre-airbag) Ferrari model size and has 6 mounting holes equally-spaced on a 70mm inner bolt circle with a 55mm center hole for your yellow/black prancing horse horn button.

348 Car Keys: Just about every hardware store in the U.S. carries the Ilco "X152 FT46" key blank. Cost? About $2. These blanks can be cut by the hardware store and will operate your 348 door locks and ignition. The Ilco fits Fiats and Ferraris alike.

NGK Iridium model DR8EIX is the best of the NGK plugs for the 348.

It would be nice to know the cross reference for the turn signal stalk unit under the steering wheel. Surely some Fiat/Alpha uses the same 3 stalks.

Ditto for the steering rack (TRW, perhaps??).

Same goes for the A/C head unit.

Same again for the coolant system thermostat. $100 for a thermostat?!

Definitely need the brake caliper cross-reference.

Holy moly ND, All we need now is a cheap aftermarket floor pan and we could make a 348 at 10% of the original Ferrari price :D

And hate to say it but probably more reliable than some 348's out there too

1156 Low for Parking and License plate lights (the non "Low" versions will melt the plastic parking light lens on 348's)

1156 regular (also 12821 Phillips) for Front and Rear Turn Signals, Tail lights, Reverse lights, and Brake lights. If you choose the LED ** versions, use the correct matching color (e.g. "red" LEDs ** for tail lights, not white) and 24 LED bulbs with WIDE angle (the versions with only 18 led "bulbs" are too dim and the versions with 30 led bulbs are too wide to fit in 348 sockets). *thanks, jrobbins

74 (or the red LED version http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/commerce.cgi?product=CAR&keywords=&cart_id=1476005.21418&next=50) for the 7 push fit bulbs in our 3rd brake light fixture (348 and 355)

194 Wedge lights for front and rear (exterior) side lights

125 Dome light for interior overhead light

1445 and 12910 (Phillips) work for the inside of the driver/passenger doors' lights

    9006 for Low Beam headlights

9005 for High Beam head lights

    H1 for Fog lights

The 26 dash lights/LEDs are wedge fit Type 74 bulbs that push into the OEM twist fit socket holders for the rear of the instrument cluster dash pod. *thanks, jrobbins

Well Pap, the NGK Iridiums are better spark plugs than OEM. The Hill Engineering Tensioners are better than OEM. The Red Line 70W90NS tranny fluid and superlight shockproof are better transmission fluids than OEM.

The LED driving lights, LED 3rd brake lights, and LED dash lights are superior to OEM.

The Kingsborne spark plug wires are superior to the Bosche OEM wires.

The Hill Engineering slickshift is superior to the OEM shift gate.

HyperFlow cats are superior to OEM converters.

Borg Warner O2 sensors are superior to Bosch OEM sensors.

Aftermarket Momo steering wheels look better than OEM, too.

There is *only* an aftermarket cruise control; OEM is not an option there. Ditto for fire supression.

And the cheap aftermarket fuel pressure regulators have no complaints, versus numerous hot start problems for 348 owners running the old Bosch FPR's.

The aftermarket carbon fiber interior pieces look better than stock, and don't have the "sticky parts" problems of OEM, either.

So yeah, mate... you can improve the 348 considerably from stock (for less cost than the same OEM replacement parts). So as the old OEM breaks, just upgrade to the newer aftermarket options.

You get a better car out of the repair that way.

We need cross referencing for the 348's fuel pumps. There are bound to be several that will work.

Likewise for the fuel level sender. The OEM version is bizzarely priced.

It would also be nice to know the cross reference for the turn signal stalk unit under the steering wheel. Surely some Fiat/Alpha uses the same 3 stalks.

Ditto for the steering rack (TRW, perhaps??).

Same goes for the A/C head unit.

Oh, Ferrari isn't always the most expensive, by the way.

Since the 1995 Peugot 306 uses the same Motronic 2.7 ECU, I searched online for the Peugot ignition coil: $230 for Peugot versus $125 for the Ferrari 348 coil.

Like the Ferrari inner panels can this thread be made a sticky? Very useful resource reference. I'd like a new pair of rear shocks and springs (purely for the cosmetics, mine look dire) so I'm going to try and check out theose Bilstein numbers.

There are aftermarket 348 springs available. For the shocks, it would be good to know which other numbers would also work well.

In addition, does anyone know the Fiat/Alpha cross reference for the 348 ignition switch?

The 348 water/coolant hose between the water pump and manifold is stock 1 5/8" hose available from NAPA, which also works well for the radiator hose from wp to firewall pipe that's almost straight.

A short 90 degree bend works well for the other hose. The guy at NAPA was able to match up the heater hose perfectly!

The industrial supply house had cam seals and O-rings at great prices. He even had an upgrade available on special order. Ask for a 50x65x8 (that must be the size in millimeters) seal in silicone.

Thanks, Bruce/Plugzit (hey, this is your thread, anyway)
