Hello, I'm doing some interior work on my 1990 348 and I can't figure out how to remove the engine cover release cable from the black lever. There is no slot to remove the cable end at the release lever and am therefore unable to free from the surround around the parking brake lever ? Thanks, JGW

Ok I just chased down an old thread that describes the solution is to cut a slot with a dremel tool so the cable can be removed from the lever.

I was looking into removing that in my 355 and found the thread you're talking about, but there has to be a way without using a dremel, right? I mean if you brought the car to the dealer what do they do?

The only other way would be to pull the entire inner cable from the latch to the release lever. I am not sure how hard it would be to feed that inner cable all the way back to the latch upon re assembly without it snagging or unraveling.....If you think about a bicycle cable there is usually a slot in the cable end ferule to facilitate the inner cable.

very easy, while you're there you can lubricate the cable

You have to cut a slot in order to get the cable out.
