Hi guys. Today the mirror I ordered from Ferrparts in Sacramento via ebay arrived. It looks a little wider than I thought. The pedestal does not include a button so I should be able to remount it flush on the windscreen. I am hoping heavy duty 3M tape will work, like it has on my temporary aftermarket set up. The key was getting more than 1 square inch surface area on the pad and glass. It's removable with dental floss or fishing line. It is supposed to be a match for TRs, 348s and 328s. I do not see a Vitaloni mark on it but it has the pedestal and 10016 number on it. Any thoughts? I hope it fits between the visors. My after market is working well now, a week and 2 feet of snow later ;) The ball joint shafts rattles just a bit but it's much smoother than my after market. That thing is so tight when I try to adjust it I can rip the foam tape off. Been avoiding that.

My mirror fell off soon after I got my 95 348 spider. I couldn't find much about how to re-Attach the mirror and I was afraid of damaging the windshield. I did find that the mirror base has a button; which was hard to identify but is the widest part of the base and there is a parting line. If you pull really hard you can separate them, it has a ball socket attachment and is very tough to get apart. Well I cleaned it off and attached with the best 3M black tape I could find. Scotch Extreme Mounting Tape 20#.
I put it on the base and trimmed off the excess and stuck it on. 1 year later and still good.
I'll try to post a picture of the tape.

You can get a rear view mirror mounting kit. I picked my last one up at Walmart of all places. It comes with the glass primer and a tube of black goo adhesive. It only takes a thin layer so the mirror base is nice and close to the glass and you don't have that foam of the tape. I've done a couple with it and you could hang solid gold dice from the mirrors with no worries. I honestly think you would break the glass if you just tried to rip it off, but I think you can still cut it off pretty easy if needed, like for windshield replacement.

Haha and heavy. The problem I had with the 3M mirror buttons was the white foam sticker would bubble and rip and the coverage was just not large enough to handle the vibration, weight, and lever action of the cantilever styled newer mirrors. The Ferrari pendant is quite good and I will work with that. In the end, the black outdoor 3M heavy duty is the best! I have used it three different ways now and actually did a little overkill with my first successful button mount. The tape and plastic base I made held great but it was a little big. The problem came with the epoxy joint between the metal button and larger plastic base. Even with scoring, it eventually let go from trying to adjust it with those stiff ball joints. My best solution was to create a plastic button and base combo. I drilled and stitched the button to the base with dental floss. So there is a mechanical connection to backup the adhesive with the small button size. It worked fine but I forgot to tighten the set screw. Did that and it was fine on my last drive which seems like ages in this damn arctic snow. I will use the black 3M tape on the Ferrari mirror with good confidence. The base is larger and if the old crusty stuff on the base is not to brittle or flaky, it should hold fine. The good thing about the 3M tape is, its reversible. I even used the dental floss to peel the tape off the glass no worries! How about the unit number does it look right?

A bit off-topic, but has anyone sourced a much smaller aftermarket rearview mirror for our cars? The rear windshield of the 348/355 is so short and narrow that there is a ton of unused mirror space and I'd much rather have that area clear to see the road ahead, being 6'1". I've asked this before in appropriate threads but received no response.

Think along the lines of the older English cars that had the tiny rearview mirror, sometimes mounted on the dash. Anybody mounted a smaller mirror to a 348/355
    successfully?

There was a Japanese company named garapan I bought the coolest carbon fiber interior mirror from about 10 years ago. I just looked them up but couldn't find them. They used to make carbon fiber parts. Anyone know them?

I compared this mirror to my aftermarket that is currently installed in the car. Guess what? This mirror is wider and taller! I wonder how it will fit between the visors but I suppose it will hang more straight down and closer to the dome light and screen rail, ahead of the visors when you flip them up and down. Still, this will result in a more obstructed forward view, which I want to avoid. I may stick with the current set up which worked well on the last drive and is still hanging tough in the deep freeze. I may install it for the Tutto Italiano show at Larz Anderson museum in the summer or at least check it out in the spring. The heavy duty 3M stuff works great. It is removed fairly simply with dental floss and some goo gone, then follow up with a razor blade and alcohol to clean the glass. Can someone take a picture of a stock mirror hanging behind the dome light? Nice and close from driving position. I have also considered designing a tiny substitute. The 3M tape works well with 1-2 sq inches of base. Maybe we could cut down one of those wide angle add-on jobs as long as we can get the angle right off the windscreen or make it adjustable.

Thought I had a proper hit on Eurospares, but they came up wanting with the "awaiting new stock" comment. I think that is code for no longer in production, sold out. Ricambi had the same message last year and no more word from them. I think this mirror is for the older Testarossa and is a little big for the narrow visor arrangement on the 348. Ho hum. It was relatively cheap. They only thing that bugs me is my new aftermarket mirror mounting pad I made, still sticks out just a tad below the windscreen tint where the factory mirror would not. This old mirror mount might hide nicely away behind the tint but still be too wide for the visors and hang a little more into the field of vision. But Superformance says they have a proper 348 unit p.n. 62850100 so far. I'll try checkout and see.

I unclipped mine, loosened the screw on the inside, did some cutting and re-shaping and managed to get it to sit about 3/4" higher back on the stock mount position. Made all the difference in the world. (I'm 6'2")

Also had a piece of convex glass (90's mitsubishi gallant) cut for passenger mirror which fixed that huge blind spot.

I've thought about cutting the edges off an aftermarket mirror and maybe reforming the edge borders with JB Weld. Form the part diagrams, the 348 mirror should be rectangular not trapezoidal. Can someone please take a picture and post it here? I may even give up on trying to show the car. Save up for 458 or 599. ;)
