Okay, this is the forum section for non-model specific discussions but I think that the subject can interest everybody.
One question where please only 348 current or former owners can reply, and one poll to which please only current and former 348 owners can answer: what is the truth about the 348? Was it as bad as some say, or was it just another great Ferrari, if not one of the greatest?

We all without a 348 will sit and read.
Many thanks to the 348ers that will share.

    Ciao ciao,
    Nic

Owner of a '92 for going on 9 years.

From my perspective, excellent exotic sports car when properly kept up and set up. Fantastic steering, and a raw, more hard-core sports car feel as compared to the late 90s/00s cars, and an incredible exhaust note when paired with a sports exhaust. Power level lets you really get your foot into the rpms and wring it out on country roads without risk of jail time, which is a big perk as a driving enthusiast with cars of this and earlier classic eras. Major bargain at the moment for what it delivers compared to other sports cars at its price point.

In-period as well as modern reviews/articles lend some interesting perspective:

Image Unavailable, Please Login I owned a 348 spider for 5 years and loved it. Gave me no issues.

i missed it so much that when later 360 and 599 failed to impress me, i looked at getting back into a 348. I couldn't find one so ended up with a 355 which i love. I would have been happy with my old spider back though

Amazing car and long overdue its greatness, had a 308 that's a nice car not magical, had a 328, much better car than any 308 series - any hands down. Almost bought several 355's (no flames), but the overall feeling a 348 gives you with the great steering, handling when set up correctly cannot compare. Power is enough not too warrant a 355, and the 355 power steering did nothing for me. The 348 is raw, analog and fun! This is not about flaming any other car, simply what a 348 is.

Tough poll, the issue is rarely the car itself, It’s usually the previous owner issues.

Who voted “awkward”? Did you try to kiss it only to later learn it was your sister?

First Ferrari was a 348. I liked the way it drove for sure. 1994 Spider. Mechanical top was much better than later designs. Simple and reliable. Can’t say that it was a bad car. I learned about Ferraris buying and driving this car. But once I had a 355, I would not go back.

After 12 years of stewardship there was only one way to vote so I voted “Magical” because of her:
    1) Hand beaten Pininfarina designed body
    2) Sensual low and wide stance
    3) Go-cart steering
    4) Manual transmission
    5).Intoxicating aroma of Connolly leather
    6) Rarity
    7) Engine note with the Spider top down
    8) Reliability (relative to other models from the same time period)
    9) Simplicity in design
    10) Dolce Vita!!

I currently have both a 92 348TS and a 95 F355 Berlinetta. The 348 is a bit more basic and raw but more thrilling to drive than the 355.

I’ve had my ‘92 348TS for 2 years last month and have put nearly 8,000 trouble free miles on it.

Granted, I had the major service and a few other preventative maintenance items covered as soon as I bought it. It’s the most fun car I’ve ever had! Analog motoring at its best.

Unfortunately, I’ll be listing it for sale soon as I’m relocating and won’t be able to bring the car with me. Otherwise it would be here to stay!

Brilliant car, very underrated. A big go-kart made for B roads. With looks very much back in fashion.

As said above, main issue is previous owners; possibly due to the relatively cheap purchase price but comparable high maintenance cost.

I had a 348 for not so long, because I crashed it under heavy rain - to be honest, that was more of my fault than of the often alleged terrible road holding of the 348.
For me the 348 is far from being as bad as some depict it; its weakness is mainly an unreliable gearbox - it also has the typical build quality of a Ferrari of the 80s but that's part of its character.

I have had my 89 TS about 15 years and I have to agree that alot has to do with previous ownership. Each time I have had a major service the car has become an even better machine. The first major sorted quite a bit of deferred maintanance. I also have a 360 F1, and by far the 348 gives me what my heart believes is a true Ferrari driving experience. I am not all about top speed or best accellerations. I love the race car sound produced by the 348 with top off to hear it sing. As I am approaching retirement unfortunately the 348 will probably soon be passed on to another owner because the major services required wont fit into my fixed income lifestyle adjustments. The 360 will be easier to financially manage in retirement. Image Unavailable, Please Login
