Hey All, I wanted to give the FChat community a heads up on 348 FPRs. It took me months to source them, so get a a couple extra on reserve when they’re back in stock or be ready to pay literally a 10x premium ($1400 extra) for two when you need them or let your car sit for who knows how long... There are two different FPRs for the car: 1) 3.2 bars and 2) 3.8 bars - each have different fittings. 1) Standard Motor Products PR161 & Bosch 280160213 2) Standard Motor Products PR298 & Bosch 0280160738 As of now, #2 is much harder to source. My car is a 1991 had had #2 style despite supposed to be #1. So, check on it prior to ordering. If you take it off… be very careful to not damage the fitting when working on it or it won’t seal again. You may be able to see its fitting design when not removing it, especially if you remove the throttle position solenoid (easy to do) which blocks the view. I had to do an international wire transfer direct with my bank to get them. $550 all said and done for 2. They’re adjustable up to about 5 bars too. - 1) https://www.protoxide.eu/en/fuel-pressure-regulators/2111-fuel-pressure-regulator-ferrari-348-ferrari-mondial-adjustable-0280160731-0280160715-137960.html 2) https://www.protoxide.eu/en/fuel-pressure-regulators/3241-fuel-pressure-regulator-ferrari-348-ferrari-mondial-adjustable-0280160738.html Amazon had #1 in stock!! 1) Image Unavailable, Please Login Out of stock, but good options if you alert yourself to restock notice and buy a couple asap: 2) https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/standard+motor+products,PR298,fuel+injection+pressure+regulator,6124 2) https://www.summitracing.com/parts/smp-pr298 2) https://www.walmart.com/ip/Standard-PR298-Fuel-Pressure-Regulator-For-Ferrari-Mondial-t/46072252 #1) compatibility and summary, according to one site: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login #2) Image Unavailable, Please Login I spent a lot of time/headache on this matter. I had the exactly same problem with my '90. I'm now running AEM configurable FPR on the left side - it doesn't look original, but was waaaay easier (and cheaper, but the easier is the key here) to get.
My friend will help me tune the adjustable fuel pressure regulators, and I got a tool to measure it. That is one factor to consider for those getting an adjustable one. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Is there a reason one of these could not be adapted? these are among the best available, adjustable and super reliable. Even cheap Holly's exist in the $80 range. https://aeromotiveinc.com/collections/fuel-regulators?page=2
Having gone through this headache on a 355 I agree. However, I think the 348 would be much easier to adapt something else to work such as something from aeromotive. I "think" just speculating that on the 348 you are mostly dealing with fitting adaptation that although may be a pain to source are available. Contrast to the 355 the regulator fits into the fuel rail with fitting that isn't readily available. In that case I think you would need to fab something. Also agree on the adjustable route make sure you have a plan to dial it in. On a single pump car such as the later 355 that has 2 regulators but are fed from a common fuel manifold you really need to take the regulator "out of circuit" from the other one to set it. i.e. the ones that sometimes are available from SPAturbo
Yeah I just replaced mine a few years ago with st Standard Motor Products brand and they work perfect. Crazy that they are just simply NLA. About a year ago I had a contract with some company on Alibaba that was going to make a hundred of them for me and I was ready to send the money and they backed out I was going to get them for about 8 bucks a piece!
Just buy a couple once (if) they’re back in stock for $70/piece. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Right, FBB. I updated my F355 Challenge with its two FPRs with a single heavy-duty Aeromotive regulator with an indwelling fuel pressure gauge ... Image Unavailable, Please Login Aeromotive also makes its adjustable FPRs with an all black OEM look.
That's great! It's the best way to both modernize and keep these great cars ok the road and the track
The picture I posted also shows that I removed the Challenge Fuel Sampler... Image Unavailable, Please Login ...with age they tended to leak and became a fire hazard.
FPR option for European 348s. Includes also return line. https://www.protoxide.eu/en/fuel-pressure-regulators/2111-fuel-pressure-regulator-ferrari-348-ferrari-mondial-adjustable-0280160731-0280160715-137960.html

I used the exact same ones from Summit Racing plus AN adapters and nylon hose (black to match OEM rubber) from Earls. This after running through numerous replacement FPRs OEM - they all leaked. Impossible to find the 3.8's; the earlier 3.2s are easier to source. Car is so much happier.
3.0 would be under 45 PSI so I think the higher number is correct, the 3.2. Either way that is deficient for this engine.
Upon reflection, yeah it might be 3.0 on the early cars. All I know for sure is I went through 3 replacements before I gave up and just followed Tim's cure.
Does anyone have pictures of the protoxide regulators being installed? For the driver side: I had to cut the mount so it could be at an angle because it’s too long and hits the intake runners. But now, it’s very close to the fuel injector. For the passenger side: the engine hoist bracket and belt cover block it. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Also, on the passenger side, the vacuum line nipple hits the intake runners blocking mounting. I wired these guys the money since they took no other form of payment… I wonder why
For the protoxide fuel pressure regulators: So far it has taken me about 22 hours designing, fabricating, fitting/testing, and modifying mounts. I bought “plain steel 16 gauge” from Home Depot. I heat it with a torch to glowing red prior to bending, I cut it with a hacksaw and dremel tool. Attached is the mount design that works. Your goal is to side step it inward, and lengthen the mount, so it mounts above the belt cover in the valley of the belt cover. Below are some pictures of the mount that worked, but I changed the bends a bit to lower it and extend it further forward. The coolant hose, the bulky wiring harness mounted on the belt covers, the intake runners, the fuel line itself, then the coolant hard lines that run laterally on the firewall will block the fuel line connectors if it’s too far forward - are all obstacles to consider in the design. I haven’t connected the fuel lines yet, or adjusted the pressure. THIS IS A ROYAL WASTE OF TIME!!!!!!!!! Do not buy these….. I wish I spent the extra $600 to buy oem. I also reached out to protoxide and the only help they gave was a 10 second video filmed on a potato: Protoxide should be selling mounts for this if they want to say it fits a 348. Anything fits if you make enough modifications….. they didn’t even provide pictures or design specs for a mount. I consider it a scam to sell something that they say fits, when it doesn’t, and they don’t say that modifications and fabrication is required in the product description. Well…. One side down, let’s hope the other doesn’t take so long.
