I own a 1994 348 Serie Speciale. I run Fabspeed test pipes into a Nouvalari performance exhaust. I know opinions on exhaust setups have been discussed here plenty of times. My question isn't really what exhaust to have, because I know this is all a matter of owner preference. My question is can modifying the exhaust setup ruin what the perfect Ferrari exhaust sound really is? I can't remember what it sounded like with performance cats and there are only clips on the internet to tell me what a stock setup sounds like so I have little to compare to. I think I like the sound I just don't know if I'm getting too far away from what a true Ferrari is meant to sound like. Opinions welcome. Thanks, Don.

Similarities and differences... I'm with ya there.

I was trying to organize a 348 get-together locally but too many other things were/are on the schedule. Hopefully I can try again in the next month or so.

Maybe something to consider for the spring in your area? Lots of lead time involved.

It's a ferrari motor it will sound like a ferrari :)

I'm putting together right now for my 348 2.5" strait pipes with torque cones at the collector, an X and CARB approved cats. Have a set of Supertrapps at the end to quiet it down when needed.

Not sure how it will sound but I'm sure it will work well, hope to finish Sunday

I also have a 1994 Serie Speciale, but I'm running 100% stock exhaust. I see you're in New England?? I'm in NH. I'd be happy to put the two cars side by side one of these days. Very curious to hear your set up! Tom

I think the range of "what a true Ferrari is meant to sound like" is pretty large. If you think about the exhaust sounds of all the models through the years they very quite a lot, from some of the more whispy quieter V12s (456) to the raspy V12s (1960s stuff) to the plain sounding V8s (308) to the really high pitched (355), and just about everything in between. I'd say that if you think the sound still jibes well with the Ferrari feel you get when driving then that's good enough. If you feel like it no longer matches the awesome feel of the driving dynamics then it's time to reassess the setup. Of course this will vary from person to person, so don't let people tell you that a certain setup is "wrong" as it may be exactly what you like. Personally I like the high pitched stuff but I also still appreciate some 4 cylinder-sounding growl too (basically how the F40 sounded when the wastegates were open at full load with a mix of low and high pitches).

I have pretty much that same setup now on my 348 and like the sound. It was all stock when I got it and it sounded good but nothing like my 355. I found one of the cats was coming apart so I put on so resonator style off road pipes and later added the Nouvalari and it brought it much closer to sounding like my 355, but my 355 was not stock and I've never heard the stock pitch. It had fabspeed headers, off road pipes, and a TUBI. A little rumbley down low but screamed pretty nice opened up.

Timely post. I just got a quote for a Nouvalari Engineering exhaust last night. I already have cat delete pipes on the car. I have seen the 2 youtube videos, anyone else have videos with that or similar setup?

Thanks for everyones thoughts. I do like the sound of the setup, but really wanted to make sure I wasn't ruining the intended classic Ferrari exhaust note. I just wanted to tweak it a bit. It's not obnoxiously loud idling, but it screams up the rpm range.

I run fabspeed cat by pass pipes, and nouvalari supersport exhaust (car was previously owned by glenn himself).

Sounds monstrous. Screams, lots of popping and burbling on the over run.

    Love it!

Do cat bypass pipes really impact the sound that much or is that mainly the exhaust?

Catylists are good mufflers. Any (most) exhaust will be louder with straight pipes.

Test pipes (catless straight pipe section) certainly impacts sound over stock cats in terms of volume and higher frequencies in the exhaust note through the rev range. Not sure against a performance high flow cat like Hyper-flows, but imagine that it would be a similar effect though perhaps not as pronounced.

The 348 can sound awesome with the right setup. Put on a good headset and listen to this one. Not much rpm but one can hear the potensial - definitely one of my favourites :
