Pretty sure I have a caliper locking up on the RF.... searched the threads and saw some rebuild part numbers for the ATE brakes but none for Brembo.

So anyone rebuild their Brembos? source for parts? or vendor?

Also.. does anyone know if the brembo calipers for 93 or newer 348 TS will work on my 93... like maybe a 95? Found some used ones and thought about swapping them out.

    Thanks in advance.

If you can't find a re build kit, and the current caliper isn't leaking, then the seals are ok and you might get away with just cleaning things up. Gently pop the pistons out with compressed air. If there's a lot of corrosion, try cleaning with brake fluid and some super fine steel wool. Make sure the brake pads are free to slide around too.

David, since it seems many URLs get blocked here I sent you a PM with a couple of potential sources. I'm pretty sure that our calipers use standard Brembo seals, so hopefully all you need to know is the diameters of the pistons (I forget, but the info is in the archives here).

Good luck and please let us know how it all turns out. That info might help someone else in the future.

    Mike,

Thanks...so the upper piston on the back side of the caliper is pushed all the way back and won't budge out. The numbers on the dust boots are as follows with the following markings on the rubber boot.

upper 20 4872 46 approx 35mm piston size from edge to edge of the piston
lower 20 4872 44 approx 30mm piston size from edge to edge of the piston

Both have what is would call "openings" of 50mm

so I'm kinda stuck as to what size to order. I found a reference here in the archives but I think based upon his boot numbers he's got ATE.

You'd need to either remove the pistons or find the diameters in the archives in order to know what size seals to order.

so a little compressed air and the piston is no longer stuck and seems to be moving ok now. (and yes I was careful. plastic clamps on the working ones so they wouldn't blow out and a little air at a time to get this one loose). I guess last pad change I got a little aggressive pushing the pistons in.... ;)

I've emailed Replacement Rotors, Pads, Hardware with the details of the dust shield numbers and will wait to see what they say. Figure it's working for now, but I'll going to go through the rebuild process in the fall (unless it fails before then) when I've got the bumpers off for respray and some other odds and ends sorting it cosmetically.

    Will keep everyone posted.

    Thanks for the help.

    David

It is almost impossible to find rebuild kits for ATE (Theves) calipers but they are available for Brembo from Replacement Rotors, Pads, Hardware

I have not measured the piston diameters on my (Brembo) calipers but I have found info that they are 36 and 40 mm. Still, it is best to take the pistons out and measure as suggested (the diameter of the visible top is not the actual piston diameter, see the attached pic).

So.. I spoke with Dave at zeckhausen racing (No affiliation) today. man is he knowledgeable. (IMO)

so the Bembro part numbers I found on the dust boots do cross reference to a specific size.

    20 4872 46 is actually a 40mm piston
    20 4872 44 is actually a 36mm piston

I plan on a rebuild in the fall in case I muck something up and have to wait for parts.

interesting convo with him too about bleeding brakes and the use of speed bleeders.

Can you share the details re: speedbleeders? I've just started to use them and I'm cautiously optimistic.

I have them on my car but many doesn't like them - nor the idea of an air based pressure bleeder.

A few folks believe the pressure doesn't get high enough to properly bleed the air out of the lines and that the speedbleeders could get stuck and cause a leak.

I guess if you don't have friends who are willing to come over and help for a beer.. you have bigger issues ;) (which remark I resemble... I just do things at strange times and hate to wait to do things)
