Hi All, Searched on here but all feedback i'm finding is a few years old. My battery is toast, and i'm looking for some options for a good battery that fits easily, is lighter then the traditional battery, but still has good cold cranking amps and will last for years. Anyone have any recent experience? If so, please share part number and size as well! Thanks!
I’ve installed an Antigravity in my 458 and will do the same in the 355. Braille is the original lithium but much more expensive
I paid $1000 for an Antigravity in my Abarth and it never let me down… until the car sat for about six months. It never came back from that. I would still put one in my Ferrari I’d just keep it on a trickle.
Lithium. The rub, of course, is with lithium there is a non zero chance it will spontaneously combust especially on a trickle charger. I misremembered. It was $681 Image Unavailable, Please Login
From my race cars, where i've used all kinds of super lightweight small race batteries, I feel like the new techno-batteries seem to not have the life span of a traditional battery.
Wow, even $681. That's like 3 normal battery replacements--in what, 15 years? To the OP, I'd just go normal--you won't feel it anyway, and the car will start fine.
I'd like to keep weight down, since I do track the 348 Challenge, but also drive it on the street often during the decent weather season. But curious to hear all recent experiences and new tech, as well as old tech!
It saved me almost 28 pounds. That’s significant. https://www.instagram.com/p/CEM7WIlBfE_/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

This battery will not deliver a sustained current. Note 2: This battery will not work on a modern vehicle with a stop-start system or a "smart" charging system. These systems are specifically set up to drain the battery down below the 12.4V shut-off point, which will trigger the Re-Start system to turn the battery off. Note 3: Never use a trickle charger or standard lead-acid battery charger on a LiFePO4 battery. Note 4: DOT regulations will only allow us to ship Antigravity batteries via UPS Ground service. UN regulations will NOT allow us to ship Antigravity outside of the 48 contiguous states. USPS will not accept lithium batteries for transport by mail.
This was over the nose in my Abarth. I haven’t put one in the 348 yet. It is difficult to convey how light they are.
Sorry Jason, honestly I didn't even notice it was you. I knew you had a Challenge you track regularly. I can see saving the weight in that context, sure.
A couple of quick questions: - Is the OEM battery size for the driver's side rear location a group 34R? - If so, would an H5 / Group 47 work back there? Antigravity's closest size is the H5 / Group 47 I'm not near the car until the weekend so can't measure the tray and hold downs! Group 34R dimensions are (L x W x H): 10.25 x 6.8125 x 7.875 H5 Group 47 dimensions are (L x W x H): 9.5 x 7 x 7.5 So slightly smaller in length and height, but 1/8" wider Thinking of buying this: https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productdetails.asp?RecID=31531 Along with the appropriate Lithium Ion charger Thanks for any help!!
I spoke to my mechamnic who confirmed the 34R is the OEM size for the rear battery location. He also advised he thinks the H5 / Group 47 should fit with no issues, so I went ahead and ordered on along with the charger. Should arrive before the weekend. I'll advise as to fitment when I install and post some pics. Feel free to post any additional info you guys / gals may have- never a bad thing to have more info on this topic as the battery technology continues to evolve!
I've just fitted a Bosch S5 battery that is 190mm High, 278mm long, and 175mm wide and it fits perfectly. Image Unavailable, Please Login
If you take your battery out you can see there are 2 leaves that bend upwards at either end so that's the only real restriction on size. Wish I had measured it now (both in inches and mm LOL) but I was just replacing my battery with an exact replacement so knew it would fit. Just a pic to show the clamp in place - I had to file the "pegs" on mine so they fitted properly in the slots. Image Unavailable, Please Login The original rusted nut and bolt were replaced with a stainless one - only noticed the split washer when checking my photos later so replacement will have to wait till I'm next in there. Those little oddesy batteries work well. Not sure how they do in cold weather but no issue here in the SoCal climate They are like 9x4x7. I can check later what one I use exactly but it is a big motorcycle battery It may be this one looking online or the size up https://www.odysseybattery.com/products/ods-agm15lmj-battery-pc545mj/
New Antigravity battery installed. Car fired right up no problem. Also purchased the requisite lithium ion specific battery charger. It weighs almost nothing! Fit perfectly. Install was easy- simply pulled LR wheel and tire, removed the rear portion of the inner fender well, and old one slid right out, new one slid right in. At least 30lbs lighter (probably more). I like this Antigravity because it has what is basically an automatic relay that opens when the charge drops below a minimum threshold so it doesn't damage the battery, and leaves you with enough charge to start the car a few times. Then you press a 'restart' button on top of the battery (or the button on the remote key fob it comes with) to close the relay and hit the road. I'll let everyone know how this works over time. I'll be tracking the car tomorrow, so hopefully no issues.
I just thought I'd chime in. I just put a brand new battery in my 92 348... today. Everstart group 34 standard from Walmart $149 three-year warranty.... 800/1000 CCA. At that price replace every 3 or 4 years just on principle.
