My door lock has the usual broken pin problem, however when attempting to repair it a previous owner managed to loose the barrel return spring too - DOH! :-(

You can buy an overpriced kit for the repair (part# 70000654) which includes the pin and the spring plus some other bits from Ferrari but I'd rather buy a Hills one if I can find the spring separately.

Alternatively, there was a repair kit for the 355 that is about half the price (part # 64046700) but I'm not sure whether it has the spring in although it should have the pin I think (I base that on the fact the hills pin is sld as suitable for the 348 and the 355)

I hope that makes sense! LOL

If I'm not mistaken Hill Engineering makes something for the door lock.

As for the spring, have you looked on the inner bottom of the door. It could have just popped off and fell down.

    Hi Ernie

Hills do make a replacement part and thats what I want to buy however that would still levae me short of a spring.

    My options are

    1) buy the Hills peg and source a spring separately (preferred option)

    2) buy the official repair kit which includes peg and spring

    3) buy a used lock that has the spring and peg included

I have had a good look for spring but as you can see from pic below the previous owner had already cobbled together a repair and the spring is already missing :-(

    I would go with #1 and #3.

Buy the Hill upgrade and the used lock to get the spring.

Just to put it into perspective....

Hills pin here in UK is £66 delivered approx $100 (still need a spring)

Official Ferrari Kit is £129.43 + approx £12 delivery approx $212

Used lock from a 355 which I'm not sure is correct £100 approx $150

348 lock which has spring but no peg £100 approx $150

Option 1 & 3 would cost me more than official kit :-( although potentially a stronger solution.

a 355 kit if it works is approx £70 + £10 delivery so approx $120

Dont know what to do for the best. Ideally Id like to get the Hills one and then find a spring off someone on here whose bought the kit and still has their old spring

Always amazes me how Ferrari use say 10 components to make a device work where other manufacturers would use 4.

Sure makes each component a work of art...pain though when they fail.

Why not try and find what other cars use the same lock?????

This lock is SURELY not exclusive to Ferrari. I'll bet if you look you can find a replacement spring for couple $dollars/£pounds.

I wish I knew! Looked under fiat, alfa romeo and lancia plus other ferraris but no joy so far.

If it helps its a torsion spring with an internal diameter of 16mm or thereabouts

Are there any marks or numbers on the lock to identify the manufacture?

Good find - those chrysler ones look assuming they are correct size. Just need to find where I can get similar in UK

Before you get too excited they come in different diameters. I though Id got a match with a landrover discovery Mk1 but it was too small :-(

Just ordered the Hills Pin which I'll hopefully get tomorrow (£68 delivered approx $102)

Once I've got it I'm going to take the whole thing to a locksmith and see if they have a matching spring.

If not Ill buy the official kit too and use the spring out of it for this lock then use the pin to refresh the pin on the passenger side. Not ideal but I want to get my door back together by the weekend! Not driven here for 3 weeks now!!!!! :-(

Hills pin arrived today. I tried to make a replacement spring from akey ring which worked for all of one or 2 turns o the key so a bit of a fail there!! :-(

One slight bit of "good" news is that it does look like 355s use the same spring and you can get a 355 repait kit for a mere £70 from Maranello. Will visit the locksmith tomorrow and if that fails Ill get one ordered :-(

What did you end up using for the spring? I'm in the same boat - my spring is missing and I just ordered the Hill pin.
    Thanks, Marc

Thank you, Jeff. The link was very helpful, but too bad on having to buy the entire kit for one spring.

I looked high and low for a spring and tried locksmiths etc.

I did get an adapted one to fit but the return action wasn't so good. Since labour was free and I like things to work right I decided to cough up the cash although very annoying as you say.

Only plus side is I have spares of the other bits although I did buy the hills pin whereas the genuine one is plastic! :-(

Big tip....lubricate your door locks as I reckon it's lack if lubrication that causes them to break

I did bought the "expensive" Hill Engineering piece.
    Lock works perfect again.

    Good luck with the spring!

I just installed the Hill Engineering door lock pin, from Ricambi, and it works great!
