I want to get the goodyear F1 Gs-D3 they come in 225/50 16 for the fronts but no 245/45 16 for the back as many have used . They have 245/50 for hte rears though. Will the 245/50 work OK and not rub or any bad effects. Thanks for all your help

I saw a 308 at Sheldon with that size tire in the rear and it looked great.

    Ooops!

Double checked my records and the car i saw was a 308 QV that had these:

    F: 205 55 16
    R: 225 50 16

The 55 up front helped to fill the gap between the fender.

The 245/50 tire will has an overall diameter that is 20mm larger than stock (almost an inch). This will result in a 10mm higher ride height than stock in the rear. I don't think you will have any rubbing, but it will change the weight bias some small, but measurable degree, probably not noticeable in normal driving. I would have more concern for adding 20mm width to the rear and not the front. I believe this would result in more understeer all other factors being equal.

Does anyome knows if the 308 QV has the same offset as the 328? And if it's the same what's the widest tire size can I use for the Rear without rubbing anything? Thank you.

Is the width of a tire measured from the tread or sidewall

Look at this post and run a search for others:

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=140178

"Tillman" seems to indicate it works just fine for his 328. Upgrading tire sizes I found to be problematic because of the limited tire selections.

Also, www.Tirerack.com and look at their chart to get diameters, widths, etc. for all tire sizes.

Supposed to be the widest point of the cross section.

Original poster said 225's in front and 245's in back. Stock is 205 front, 225 rear, so he's adding 20mm to both front and rear. Same as "standard" upsize except taller in back.

    Just went through the same dilemma;

I wanted to up size my 328 tires. I did a lot of tire research and also wanted to go with the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3. (Tire choices for 245/45/16 are very limited). The Goodyear isnt made in a 245/45/16, but is in a 245/50/16.

Tillman responded to a post of mine asking your same question. Tillman said he was running Kumho 712s and has no problems with wheel well fit - I looked at several tires with similar section widths for 50 series sidewalls, then had my local shop mount up a 245/50/16 Yoko AVS 100 for fit check - I put the wheel on and it fit and looked great - no problem.

Heres my issue - the 50 series side wall will not give you the same running dementions that Ferrari originally designed the car for - aspect ratio and revs per mile. Also one of the things I love so much about my 328 is that it sits only 44 inches above the ground. The 50 series makes the car 45 inches with an additional rake (even took leveled measurements at different sites).

Depending on the spcific tire, the 50 series should work. I still want to see what upsizing will do for me. 245/45/16 should give a larger footprint while still keeping with Ferrari's suspension/ride design.

In my research I found many (Porsche, Viper, and Ferrari) recommending the Bridgestone Potenza 750s - these 245/45/16 and 225/50/16 will go on my 328 this Saturday- guess it's one way to find out if I'll like em' - PM me later and I'll let you know my experence.

I've been running Bridgstone Potenza 750's for about six months. Great tires and no problems, very sticky without any screeching on corners etc. Good summer or rain tire. Not that I like to ride in the rain but you can get caught up in some wetness in the Pacific Northwest. Also, don't forget that F1 race cars all ran Bridgestone Potenza's in their races this year. (not that its the same rubber compound) but it helps to know the manufacturer is involved in designing the highest end tires technology.
