328 US Euro engine/ECU difference?

    Had someone ask me this yesterday and I have no idea. I want to say both engines are identical internally with the only difference being ignition timing and maybe cam timing? Euro is rated just a touch higher at 270bhp, or is that Italian smoke? I have seen 328s on the dynojet and a 'strong' one will make 215-220 at the wheels. Not sure about Euro examples.

    US and Switzerland had lower compression. Different fuel injection system. Not a lot of difference in power. Swiss version the lowest. Ignition ECU the same with different settings.

    Attached is the difference in timing curves between US and Euro. Top left US 2 valve. Top right US 4v. Bottom left Euro 2V. Bottom Right Euro 4V. The timing curve is much different. I suspect the Cat cars make peak power a little lower in the rpm range.
    The US and Catalytic cars have smaller header tubes and smaller collector size as well.

    The two-into-one exhaust and the cat on the US 328 is probably a big piece of the HP difference.

    4 valve 308 and 328 are different. All injected 308s had Digiplex systems. Very different from 328 Microplex systems.

    The 3.2 ignition curves are different based on market setting but not as profound as with Digiplex .

    My 328 is incredibly strong, I have to say, at 105 k miles, it has not skipped a beat, one would be surprised at how well its done on roll ons on the freeway with other cars over the years. I have to say, you really need to rip out the cat and the stock exhaust / muffler, they really seem to wake it up somewhat surprisingly. I had a Ferrari tech rebuild my entire suspension a while back, he had a 6k mile 328 in his shop at the same time, and told me that my car ran absolutely better than the low mileage 328 he had in his shop. I also want to add, I dont think many people speak about the fact that the 328 s design really helps the car aerodynamically , it really slices through the air, kind of like my Hyabusa. Sure, it would always be nice to have more HP in the 328, but I have never really felt the need or want for it , I have to say. I have the Tubi / Larini set up, and the sound is period correct, and its just heavenly to me. I dont think I will ever sell it , or ever buy another Ferrari, but hey, you never know. As I get older, I find myself liking the Testarossa more and more, I watched Jack / Number 27 on You Tube testing one out, and I liked what he had to say. He ended up selling his 308 to a chap here in the US. He says his next project will be a Pantera, well see. I feel very fortunate not only to have owned my 328 for 24 years, but to have had enough money to keep it perfect in every way, and I have to say, it did not break the bank at all, its that simple. The differences in the Euro vs US, I dont think are a big deal, once the exhaust is attended to, one can feel a difference. I also think the K & N filter added some " more good running to the motor " as well. The engine bay is a lot cooler when you pull open the lid as well, I can feel a huge difference in the amount of heat that was reduced without the cat installed.I can only attest to these things because I have experienced them over the last 2 decades of ownership. This car will go to 200,000 miles without a problem, its that simple. Like I said before, its a shame modern Ferraris are not built as well. I also wanted to say how well the cars handling improved with all 4 motor mounts replaced. While going around corners with my hair on fire, it feels like chunks of asphalt are being ripped up out of the road, this being a car that is 35 years old, now that is saying something. Im running 17s all the way around with nice fat rubber as well, 8" in the front, 9 " in the rear . Ive dialed in my 328 to well suit my style of driving as well as to compliment what a great machine the 328 is right out of the crate. I cant say how other 3 x 8s do when it comes to putting on the anchors, but my car stops quite well, from no matter how fast your going, its amazing what Ferrari engineered in this car , way back in the 80s, when you think about it, its mind boggling.

    Speaking of these differences - is it possible to fit a full Euro exhaust (headers and everything) to a US model or are there missing brackets?
