328 clutch bearing question

    Hi hope some one can help me. I have a 1988 pre abs 328. I am assembling the clutch etc I bought the car in bits. My question is on my clutch release bearing/carrier it has no provision for a return spring or the spring clip that attaches to the forks. I seen them on 308. Is this correct did they do away with the clip.

    They changed the design from a non-contacting throw-out bearing with clutch pedal up (which needs the spring clip holding the throw-out bearing to the fork) on carb 308 to an always contacting throw-out bearing with clutch pedal up sometime in the 308i model years IIRC. Your 328 doesn't need the spring clip, and the SPC figures are often useful assembly references:
