I saw a red one and a white one about 30-40 years ago. I think DP Design was owned by a former car stylist who had a factory in Germany. I remember one had a chrome roll bar pushed in the down position but there was some way to raise it. I don't recall the convertible top. Does anyone know how many they made and what the conversion cost back then? This was obviously before Ferrari had the GTS. And also wondering since I have never seen one for sale, are they $100,000 cars today, or did they languish on the used car market since they were/are in essence "customs?" This site, about half way down has pictures of the white one. I would thump the guy on the head for stealing my pictures but hey I forgive him because I forgot those shots..and now want to update myself on DP Ferrari 308 "Stinger" Kit Registry - Pennock's Fiero Forum
Don't know anything about the DP or the Stinger, but the Lorenz & Rankle 308 spider conversions are fairly common, and we have discussed these at large here. They are priced just like any other 308 equivalent. Their period brochures are fairly easy to find on E-Bay for instance. The cars do pop-up from time to time for sale. These were made at the same time than the 308 GTS; of course, and I am repeating myself here, you must be aware that the factory seriously intended to sell the 328 as a full cabriolet, so there is one factory-built 328 cabriolet still alive today, the prototype, in private hands in Italy. That car has also been much discussed and illustrated here. The marketing men of Ferrari eventually feared that selling a full 328 cabriolet would kill the sales of the Mondial cabriolet, which was the only Mondial version for which the sales were satisfactory. Not sure what the difference is between a 308DP and other conversions but below will give some idea of the value. In the current market in Europe, originality is King with the perceived interest by 'collectors'. So these conversions don't do too well... March 2012: 1980 FERRARI 308 GTS SPYDER | eBay This car had originally sold at auction a few weeks previously for GBP 15,435 The auction house (Anglia Car Auctions) had described it as follows: 1980 FERRARI 308 GTS SPYDER LHD. A file of past invoices and expired MOT certificates are with the car. A £12k engine rebuild was undertaken by Marque Specialists Q.V. 2 years ago. MOT and tax June 2012 ESTIMATE: £12000-£16000
Some clones they have on that forum are hideous! I do appreciate the work they put into building them though. PDG sent from Io, innermost moon of Jupiter
