I just purchased a 1985 308 GTS QV and am looking for repair/maintenance shop recommendations for the Portland, Oregon area. It would be great to know where other owners (particularly pre-1990's models) are taking their cars.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Used to maintain Tonkin's personal fleet of Ferrari's before opening his shop. Great guy and very knowledgeable.

Thank you for the quick response and recommendation. I actually spoke with Craig prior to purchasing my 308. Based on my conversation with him, he does seem like a really great guy and was clearly very knowledgeable. When we spoke (two to three months ago), he told me that he was closing the Jag Shop. As I recall, he was having difficulty finding qualified staff (beyond himself) to adequately provide service to his customers. I was VERY sorry to hear that.

Now that I own the car, I will check back to see if he has, in fact, closed the shop. If you have any other recommendations (as a backup plan) I would be very happy to receive them.

    Thanks again!

What kind of work needs to be done?

At this point, not much needs to be done but I want to be proactive and prepared for future needs. The two relatively small issues right now involve a brake fluid leak at one of the rear calipers and a slight vibration sound that occurs right at 3000 RPM. There is no vibration below 3000 RPM and none once 3000 has been exceeded. My suspicion is that the latter may be related to a heat shield, but not sure. Other than that, the car seems to be running smoothly....knock on wood.

Botta Moto Works did all of the work on my 355 recently. They are awesome! Very knowledgeable and were great to work with. I also talked to Craig at the Jag shop, as he was the one who was recommended to me, but similar to you, he said he was shutting down.

Thanks for your response. It is always great to hear from someone with first hand experience. I will do a bit more research on Botta Moto Works. Best Regards

I would speak with RTGT as well. They do older cars as well as newer ones, and I regularly see 308s and such in there. They've done a great job on my 612, and I have thought of taking my 365GT to them.

Terry is retiring, which is a bummer, though. But I think they will still be okay.

Let me know who you go with. My 1995 348 Spider will need the engine out major in the next year, and Craig is who serviced my car for the last 8 years.
