Hey guys. I am rebuilding my master cylinder and want to confirm everything is right as I put it back together. Does anyone happen to have an exploded parts diagram of the master cylinder? Thanks.
It is surprising that F didn't include a good cross-section drawing of the master cylinder in the 308GT4 WSM. Can't say what 308 this is from (nor if they are all the same or not), but this is what another FChatter posted (that I saved as "308 Brake Master Cylinder Piston-Shaft-Seal Assembly"): Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks Steve. That doesn’t quite show me what I was look for. I accidentally dropped one of the parts when I disassembled before I saw the orientation. I am specifically looking at this part. Is this oriented correct? Image Unavailable, Please Login
You've got your parts laid out in the reverse order of the photo I posted, but I think that the way you have the part in the blue circle oriented matches what I posted: Image Unavailable, Please Login

I recently rebuilt the master for a 1984 QV. I just want to warn you that I discovered that there are three, not two, different sizes of seals in different 308 masters. Two of those sizes are extremely close together. I first rebuilt with seals from a reputable supplier which were very slightly too small and the system would not bleed properly, even though the master felt normal and did not leak. I re-rebuilt with very slightly larger seals and all was well.
Good to know if that fits! Also, remember that there is the crucial clearance between the master and the servo to consider if you are replacing the original master.
So are you saying that there are 3 within the set that are different or 3 from different vendors? I have already re-assembled and I did not notice 3 sizes. I may need to tear it back down.
Three from different sources. All in one MC are the same. Carefully measure your originals and "go big" within reason. The difference between correct and too small was shockingly small. Sorry I am not at my house to measure and I don't remember the three sizes. Finally an expert (Apple Hydraulics in Calverton N.Y.) advised me that there are three sizes and supplied me the correct size for my particular MC.
Very interesting. I need to take it back apart and measure them carefully I guess. Thanks for the heads up.
I bought this one for $80 on eBay......I am in the "repair everything camp", but this seemed the cheaper/less stressful easy path for my restoration. Brakes Master Cylinder For FIAT Ducato Panorama 453583 MAGNETI MARELLI
Normally i try to fix everything but a brakecilinders needs typically a little bit more than new seals to make it like new again. Unless yiy have the real proper equipment, with these kind of parts i go for new, simple
You were right. The ones I have are considerably different from the ones that were in it. See attached pic. My master cylinder is stamped 9j22m92 1405996. Can anyone confirm if this is actually an OEM 308 MC? Image Unavailable, Please Login Thanks
