I really like his content, but I don't know why he doesn't like the sound of 308's.

With the flat plane crank, in standard form, with factory exhaust and manifolds, from idle to @ 6,000rpm, the 308's V8 can sound a bit mundane, because it's basically just two straight four's running next to each other.

Over 6,000rpm the two straight fours start to howl, and they start acting in stereo, adding to noise levels - The problem is, for 96.98637%* of driving (* totally guessed percentage ;)), you drive them at below 6,000rpm.

Jack (Number 27) keeps comparing the Ferrari's V8 to the Pantera's Ford V8, but the Ford motor is a cross-plane crank, firing a single cylinder at a time, so sounds how people think all V8's sound, with that classic rumble from idle upwards.

A sports exhaust with less baffles and larger bore pipes increase the volume level, helping with the noise, and a full sports exhaust system with custom manifolds can offset the exhaust pulses to a small degree, giving the 308 engine a bit more of a rumble throughout the rev ranges (it will never match a cross plane crank V8, but it will generate a bit more of a V8 sound)

Jack isn't the first person to show some disappointment at the noise 308's make - It's been noted in most road tests over the last 49 years (yes! - The 308 GTB design is almost 50 years old!) that the noise made by the 308 isn't particularly special below 6,000rpm.

Oddly enough I’ve always loved the sound of the [emoji639]x[emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji640]]’s, especially carb’d. They have a certain unmistakable ring to them. Some call it tinny. I call it sweet.

Excellent explination - with regards to manifolds, is there a source for sportier ones? I've only seen OEM offered.

[rant] Actually just watched this video the other night. I've enjoyed most of Jack's 308 videos, but in this one he parrots a complaint that makes me shake my head every time I hear it: the flexibility of the GTS chassis vs. the GTB.
What gets me about these complaints is two-fold:
    1) What do you expect from a 50 year-old car that had its top hacked off (heck, what do you expect from any 50 year-old street car)?
    2) They all seem to come from people - Jack included - driving 6, maybe 7/10 on the street.
Outside of a little cowl shake, I'm still waiting to meet the person pushing their GTS so hard on public roads that they can describe exactly when and how the lack of torsional rigidity compromised their Sunday drive.
Forgetting the above for a moment: I'd be surprised if the 308's oil starvation issues even let a GTS get close enough to the limit long enough for its less rigid chassis to become apparent.
The GTS does exactly what it was designed to do, so unless you're a chassis engineer, maybe try a little harder to suppress those Captain Obvious urges in the future. [/rant]

Well, I would say that a good drive is a combination of three factors, a good road, a good driver and a good car.

The perfect drive is a good twisty road where you can reach between 90 and 100% of both the car and the driver's capacity.

What is great with the GTB (and that you don't have with modern cars) is that, on a twisty mountain road, you can reach very easily these two thresholds in a very homogeneous manner . The issue with the GTS is that you reach the car's capacity way sooner (due to the chassis compromises) and it is ultimately less of a driver's car.

For someone who only drove a GTS all its life, this is certainly not an issue. For someone who happened to drive the two, the difference is really noticeable and is something that makes you really think about your choices. The real question is: "am I ok to compromise handling to get that superb feeling of fresh air on my hair or do I prefer to have fun on twisty mountain roads with a very predictable car...?".

The only correct answer in my opinion is to buy both a GTS and a GTB...

I respect that logic. I just need to explain it to my wife.

    Bit harsh ^ ,
The guys now a professional “u tuber “ after building his followers with “influenzo “ ( the bought @auction ) during lockdown / covid .

So after selling the 308 has been looking for content .Mostly stuff loaned by followers , but obviously he’s been rotating various projects to keep the content fresh .
The Pantera is arguably an attempt to get another step , statement car ? To be fair they have a well earned following , Ford running gear and all .

The real real Ferrari aficionados know exactly what they are buying with the flat planed crank thingy , the F1 , the race heritage etc etc it’s like comparing apples and pears mentioning the flat plane crank sound in the same sentence as a trad American V 8 and somehow trying to sort them in order of sound quality.

A bit daft really imho . Kinda talking down tech wise to the audience.

Agree with every single thing you said. Except the harsh. I tried watching some of his InfluEnzo vids and could never get past 5-10 min. I get to where I feel like I’m watching an infomercial. I’m glad he entertains others.

For reference, I loved Harry’s white vetroresina video.
