Dear friends, in view of the occasion I would like to point out that from now on the only valid web address for the Register is The Ferrari 308 GTB Register www[dot]308gtb[dot]de This has happened due to an unavoidable change of website host. The former address and all the subpages, located at r-design.net, will no longer be accessible. All content is still available under the new address, of course. So just in case, please update your bookmarks. Sorry for wasting the bandwith. Best regards, Robert Image Unavailable, Please Login
Robert, your site is always fantastic, thank you very much for sharing. When you can, please update the 34465 color: it's blue, "blu sera", not red. Thank you very much! ciao (P.S. look what there is in the background...) Image Unavailable, Please Login
I saw this car a couple weeks ago and it is beautiful, amazing Enviado do meu iPhone usando o Tapatalk
Do you mean the 1956 De Portago 250 Tour de France there is in the background? ciao Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have a question about the registered cars on the site. One column is for build number. What is this? thanks
I think the term "assembly number" (or build number) has not been an official Ferrari term back when our cars were produced. It is stamped on the oil cooler support (dry sump cars) or on the bracket which the ignition coils attach to (wet sump cars). This number can also be found on various parts of the car, e.g. handwritten on the seat foam underneath the seat or on the backside of the dashboard. Read more about it here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328-sponsored-yellow-compass-group/61994-308-assembly-sequence-numbers.html Robert
Alberto, I will change it next time I work on the website. This is an amazing TDF in the background, but it is clearly overshadowed by the beauty of your 308 ;-) Will the TDF take part in the Mille Miglia next weekend? Tanti saluti, Roberto
thank you for the explanation. Mine is registered as "1" does this mean(based on the link provided) that it was the first build in the series for 1977?
Thanks, Roberto. My car is nice, but not SO nice... I don't know if that 250 TDF will be at 1000miglia 2016, but I know that it was at Tour Auto France 2016, two weeks ago. ciao
Initially I thought of tracking all 308's, but the huge amount of cars built made it clear that it would be too much of an effort. The register is just a hobby, and being pretty busy with my job and family, plus an old racing car project, my spare time is somewhat limited, unfortunately. So I decided to focus on the carburated GTB, like the one I own. Robert
It brackets the 1975 thru 1980 (Euro) ones. They are the best! Your assembly number is "1" stamped on the car?? I have never seen one that low!!! Thanks for the update Robbie! My 1977 #22641 is with Member 'ArcticLights now", back to Pacific NW My 1976 steel #20405 disappeared up to a NYC dealer, and I suspect will re emerge totally restored. Will be interesting to see the $$$$$$. I kept #22127. My address where raised was 127 22nd Avenue.
Yes, it was the first of three I purchased. I did not know the VIN at the time, I was only going for yellow/black.
Hey guys, Robert has put a lot of time and effort into maintaining this website, which I think we all benefit from. I just sent him a small donation via Paypal (there is a link on the website). I am not trying to 'guilt trip' anyone, but I think it would be nice to send him a small token of appreciation for his efforts. I appreciate what he's accomplished, but he has really done it all out of pocket. Not agitating on his behalf, and I suspect he may be embarrassed by me stating this publicly. It's a great site, and I think he deserves a bit of credit. Sorry for the lecture
Andrew, thanks a lot for your positive remarks about my registry project and the connected website. Indeed I was a bit embarrassed reading your statement about supporting the registry by a donation. To start the registry as a hobby was my own decision, so nobody owes me nothing, of course. The actual cost of running the website is neglectable compared to the time involved. This time can be split more or less in 4 major areas: 1. Searching the internet, magazines, classic car meetings and much more for serial numbers and relevant information about the 308 GTB. That's my hobby and my free choice. 2. Keeping the database and the website up to date, i.e. filling in the researched information and what is provided by owners and supporters into my files (many of them are on FerrariChat - thank you, guys!). This also includes the (sometimes lengthy) communication with the owners, who are registering their cars. This can consume a lot of time, but is very interesting and entertaining as well on some occasions. It even led to a few real world friendships with people from all over the globe. 3. Answering requests about certain cars from 'wheeler dealers'. This takes time as well, but on the other hand they share the information about the cars they are selling with me, so it is a kind of give and take situation. (Please note that I do not forward any personal information of current or past owners to anyone else; nor do I publish any personal information on the website, unlike other registries) 4. Answering requests from guys interesting in buying a certain car. In general, there's nothing wrong with that, but sometimes it's a bit of a pain in the backside, when people send me the links to several cars advertised on the internet, and ask for my detailed opinion about them... and after that, you never hear from them again. To sum it up, nobody should feel pressured to make any donations. Only if someone feels that he really benefitted from the website or the communication with me, and wants to thank for it, this is a possible way. To put it into perspective: Since I have introduced the 'donate' button maybe 6 months ago, I have received exactly two donations: One from Andrew and one from a german owner, who is not on this forum. So don't be afraid that I will stop running the registry any time soon, because I became rich by donations Thanks for reading and for supporting the registry by supplying 308 GTB information for my database! Best regards, Robert
Hi Robert, seriously...didn't meant to embarrass you. I just think you have created something of importance to the community and felt (personally) that it was worth supporting. Thanks again for all your effort and enthusiasm. Best wishes.
Hi Martin, I assume you made similar experiences when supplying your technical advice... Hope you were not having me in mind when you wrote this ;-) Best regards, Robert
Hi Andrew, I understood your intention and appreciate it a lot. Most of all, I am happy that you feel my project has some value for the 308 community. Best regards, Robert The Ferrari 308 GTB Register
In no way!! My statement was more intended as a general rule regarding today's perceptions like 'what's in the internet, is free'. Your statement regarding the discrepancy between your advert consulting and donations are self-explanatory. I myself will never forget that german owner who came via your website and worked off his one hour lasting questionnaire, but just forgot a simple 'Thank you' at the end of the phone call. Best Regards Martin
True, unfortunately. It is very often the case on many forums: a newbie arrive with some very specific questions regarding a car he intends to look, or regarding a mechanical problem he has, and when having collected all the information he needs, he disappear. Some do not even say "please"... As for myself, I do also my best to motivate persons who have collected information already to bring these in the game; I do not like people who are only pumping information from any given website, but are not giving something from what they have in exchange... It must work both ways: if you find some profitable information, then you return some whenever you can... Rgds
