I decided to go do my fuel neck filler hose today and it took about 3 hrs. I had to slit the old hose to get it out. Once that was done I worked the neck out of the large rubber grommet. While in there I noticed this nipple that comes from the fuel filler area. This is the overflow in case you spill gas outside of the fill tube. I noticed that mine was plugged with crap so if I would have spilled gas it would run out over the body. Also this little nipple did not have a drain hose attached. Next there are 2 hoses coming off of the top filler neck. One is an overflow that runs out of the car and the other runs to a larger pipe that goes to the other tank. I look in my parts book and on the small hose it just shows it running down the tank with a rubber overflow hose. Parts book is a 75-76. On my 77 there is a check valve in this hose. That too was not operating. Based on how it was located it appears that it will let overfill fuel out and will not let air in or if pressure builds up in the tank it will vent. So these hoses will get replaced also. Attached are the pic's showing the old hose and the new one mounted. Not to bad of a job.

Nice job with double clamps. Do you own a boat?

I have been considering doing mine as well this winter. Any words to the wise on how to make the job easier?

What size hose was in there?

    Many thanks for your help.

Where does the overflow nipple connect inside of the filler hose? Did you put it back in? My hose connecting the two tanks at the bottom have a 1 3/8 stamp on them, no markings on the filler hose. What size did you use?

What are the white plastic things in the first picture?

Any recommendations on where to get the hose? Any cross reference, or can this be had at any local parts store?

OK , don't own a boat but felt that double clamping was the way to go. So after removing the wheel and then the inner fender liner you need to remove the air duct for the oil cooler. If you loosen both clamps on the cooler duck and remove the bolt near the dizzy coils you can move the duct enough to take it out of the fender well. Next remove the filler neck hose clamps. I slit the hose to take it off. The replacement hose I got from NAPA and it is 2 1/8" ID hose. Next is cut the hose to the same length as the OEM hose. This is important or you will struggle to put it on if you make it to long. Next I pulled the filler neck down and toward the side of the car and removed it. I slid on the fuel hose and moved it down as far as possible on the gas tank neck. Use your finger and put some oil around the big rubber grommet where the filler neck goes. Push the neck up through the grommet and at the same time push on the rubber hose to collaps it. Push the filler neck up as far as possible and it should just clear the rubber hose. Line up the neck with the hose and fron the top push the neck down. Now take the big hose and move it around until it is centered between both the fill and the gas tank . Unscrew the band clamps and put them around the hose and tighten. Replace the 2 other hoses with the right size hoses and you are ready to put back the liner and wheel. You can do this on the floor or on a lift. I have a lift so I am sitting down when I do this.

The two white things in the picture are just a few dizzy rotors that I had on the bench when I took the picture. Good luck and have fun.

    Thanks!!!

Many people don't know the benefits of double clamping unless they own a boat. :)

The fuel filler hose is a frequently cited potential disaster, waiting to happen.

Mine was replaced by the po - BUT - my 77 still had all of the old cloth covered evap and vent hoses.

Guess what leaked "tons" of gas when i filled the tanks and parked on a hill? - the tiny evap hoses leaked a couple of quarts before i could get the car onto the flat driveway. Luckily, no fires.

If the car is on a hill or slope, full tanks can let a lot of gas escape on the low side vent hoses - REPLACE EVERY HOSE THAT CARIES FUMES OR VAPORS. The pressure hoses are an obvious necessity. The filler and cross over hoses, not so obvious and leastly, the lowly evap hoses.

    DO THEM ALL.

Been through a few gas fires, (not the F car) and very cautious with the 77.

    HTH,
    chris

Yeah, i gues if your boat catches fire, your chances of getting out alive are even less.

If we take it to the next level, what do the airplane guys do??? Aeorqip?? This sounds like a low cost winner.
Any comments?? Suggestions for compression fittings on the carb inlet/tank nipples?

A few buck for performance - A no brainer.

A few bucks more for keeping your car from burning, (& maybe you too) - priceless.

    Anybody done the aeroquip??
