I was just talking with Matt at Reoriginals about a replacement carpet set. [Mine is actually decent but shows enough age that it could be a candidate for replacement] Anyway, apparently the original all nylon carpet is no longer available. His solution is a 100% wool that is apparently somewhat higher quality than the original.

Anybody know what the accepted solution for FCA level judging is? Is the wool alternative accepted without point deductions? Is there a better solution from someone besides Reoriginals?

    Jeff,
Can they put the Ferrari logo on the carpets? (i.e. are they licensed to do that?) A bunch of eBay carpet dudes got shut down for illegal use of the Ferrari logo. I'm wondering if reoriginals can do them with the factory correct markings, whatever those would be.

What Matt told me is that they are using the fabricator people/company that made the carpet sets originally for the factory.

As for the foot pads he says that they now have the correct replacement part.

Matt says that he is always going for concours correct replacement items for his offerings. When it came to the carpet material his discussion is that since the original nylon is no longer available his wool version is apparently what Ferrari uses for their replacement. What he could not confirm is how this alternative is accepted by strict FCA judging standards.

I can say that on the replacement vinyl top cover that attaches the the aft firewall that it does have the correct horse emblem on each snap.

??? There's no ferrari logo on the carpets? Am I missing something?

I've seen carpet matts with the logos, but never a car with them in the carpet.

The guidelines don't include carpets as routine replacement items, so I have interpreted the correct answer as whatever was with the car when it left the factory.
"Wear" from use is acceptable. How bad are they. I'd clean them up and re-evaluate.

I know the original fabric is not available and no way would I get rid of the ones in my GT4. They may even be worse than yours, but they are original.

I believe a lot of people would replace these carpets, but to me that defeats the whole notion of preserving the car and the mark. In terms of a better alternative than reoriginals; I needed a new carpet for my testarossa and was able to find a NOS carpet piece. So, yes, there is an alternative if you can track down a NOS piece in your color.

    Try www.italiancarparts.com

    http://www.italiancarparts.com/interior/carpet_choices.html

    Indicates they have nylon pile.

And of course a good car interior guy could make you a set of nylon carpets from the originals as patterns. Not cheap, but would certainly be concours correct.

as to the judging. I've been to a couple of FCA judging seminars and worked as a judge at a regional FCA concours. At that level we don't examine the materials used to make the carpet, just that it fits correctly, no logos, etc.

As an alternative, you can get the folks at www.ggbailey.com to make you mats from any pattern you provide. So, you could cut a paper pattern to cover as much of your old carpeting as possible and get full coverage floor mats to protect the old carpeting. Just remember to remove the floor mats prior to concours judging.

I found a very close match to original, but the backing was different.
Veteran's Trim Supply in Houston, downtown on Lubbock.

ReOriginals is right it is NLA or very hard to find.

Sean F. is right original carpets had heel pads only, no logos at all....
