I have followed most of the treads about 288 conversions and it is not really what I am looking for. Does anyone know of a "half way" body kit, where you modify the wheel arches only and maybe the rear end ? Similar to what´s avalable for Porsche 911: "Turbo" widebody optical kit.
Try a search on Koenig or Zender (you can find pictures in the 308 book by Wallace A Wyss). Page 72 for the Zender kit. Will try and scan over the week-end if no one else comes up with anything. If not how about the Group iv look?
Berlinetta Motorcars in Huntington, Long Island, NY. has GTO panels. Also Nick at Forza may have some.
Here's a 328 project car with the Koenig body kit that I think the seller never finish. But there are too many zeros on the price: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1986-FERRARI-328-328GTS-GTO-Koenig-turbo-wide-body-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem5d2d380752QQitemZ400190605138QQptZRaceQ5fCarsQ5fNotQ5fStreetQ5fLegalQ5f#ht_774wt_948
I'm doing a small GTO conversion on my 308. I have the side mirrors painted and ready to be installed. I would have loved to do the front spoiler, but there was too much involved. New Grill, Fog Lights, so i just installed the Euro Spoiler.
Not that much, I just fitted the new grill and bumper in 1-1/2 hours.Just a few adjustments for the lights and paint the bumper and I am done.
On page 59 of the book The Ferrari Dino 246, 308 and 328 A Collector's Guide by Alan Henry (Copyright 1988) there is a picture of a Pininfarina styling study that appeared at the 1977 Turin Show. It shows a 308 GTB with, basically, wheel arch add-ons only. Does anyone have the picture? I couldn't find it online.
That's an awesome conversion; here's a completed example. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I looked into doing this conversion a few years ago. One thing I found was some of the companies produce "add on" panel, while others were replacement panels. Big difference in the effort required. Anyway, this is not for the faint of heart DIYer.
Hey Chris, When you were looking at GTO front spoilers, who'd you find that has them available? I know Mark's running one on his 308 as he needed the space for the intercoolers, which I'll need down the road as well. I think he got his from Butch Hooper, but I'm not sure they're still churning them out. I'd thought a bit about just cutting up the US spoiler and deepening the chin with sheet metal... it would be a lot of work though.
Hey Bret, I got it from GT Car Parts. They had the GTO one too back then. But it's something they don't have all the time if i remember correctly. And of course it doesn't fit exact. There's a little playing you have to do with it. I had a body guy friend of mine come up and he installed it for me. Keep rocking
Not sure I like any of the body kits on 308/328s. I think they kind of screw with the already perfect proportions of the car. The 288GTO being the exception. PDG
To my oppinon, the first (top) picture looks just horrible. The others is closer to what I am after: not a complete 288 GTO conversion, just something to make the "flat" 328 look a bit more "curvey". Like the difference between Porsche 911 and 911 Turbo. It should look "factory made" and descrete, with just slightly wider wheel arches. I do not have in mind a new front, wings etc. Anyone knows where to find this ?
actually, the set in the second picture is the same as the set as the first. In the second one it's only more "integrated" with the body of the car
Barry answers my question in another thread: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=140248366&postcount=35
i had an 85 Carrera targa, and i still have my 87 Widebody Slopenose. Big difference when viewed from the back. I love the look of the 288 GTO cars. Local Volvo dealer Ralph Tolman drives the snot out of his. i would love one for the street ! Image Unavailable, Please Login
If you put one of these conversions or 288GTO kits or whatever on a 3x8, for Pete's sake, stick a blower or something on there to get another 100 or more HP. Otherwise it's just a total embarrassment. One of those wide kits probably drops the top end of the car by at least 10MPH due to the drag imposed. The boy-racer thing with no "guts" to back it up is sad.
I took all my Koenig stuff off...the front spoiler is in Phoenix and available and the wheel flares may be with Gary Bobileff in San Diego. If you want the spoiler let me know and we can find a good price. Call Gary regarding the flares if he still has them.
