    Hi,

I’m looking at reproducing the original Speedline pattern of 16 inch 308 series wheels in magnesium rather than aluminium. It’s always bothered me that the current aluminium 8’’ reproduction wheels do not have the right offset (the 8’ ‘rear Speedline wheels had a larger ‘dish’ on the outside which I think looks great), and of course there is the weight saving of magnesium over aluminium.

I was wondering if there would be any enthusiasm for this project?

I’ve been in touch with the foundry that originally cast Speedline wheels in the 70s and they can reproduce the wheels based on their experience with magnesium and my original Speedline wheels but the price is pretty high - Euro 6400 per 4 wheel set (2x7’’; 2x8’’).

Is this something that people would be interested in?

    Steven

This sounds like a worth while project. How many sets are you going to produce to get to that price?

Sounds like a reasonable price to me.

Interested for sure. Please keep me in the loop.
    Does that include shipping?
Also you may want to post this in the 308 section and get a larger audience.

So, would the wheels be finished (painted) or raw magnesium?

Hi everyone, I realise I didn’t ever reply and update about this. Basically for the level of interest it doesn’t look like there are enough people. I wish someone would make 8’’ wheels with the correct offset - it looks so much better on the rear IMHO. I’ve let the trail go dry a bit with the foundry but maybe can take it up again in the future if there is interest. I still have the original wheels sitting at home

Ask in the 308 forum. Not that much traffic here compared to there.

Even though I "have mine", there's been enough improvement in manufacture since 1978 I feel this has legs.

But, I also feel the current market won't support your number $$$.
I don't know how you would address that..

My 1978s have a porosity that "today" would freak people out, yet Ferrari painted them and put them on!!
Pictures are in here from my sale ad....

Old thread, but $7225 USD for a set of 4 repros? No chance.

Yeh, I agree. Too much. I would however much rather have a set of magnesium ‘repos’ than original ones though!
