On Saturday, January 10th we are organizing our 2nd Annual January Drive to Pinehurst. Last year was a huge success with Ferrari owners driving in from Raleigh/Durham, Charlotte, Winston Salem, and other points in-between.

We'll be meeting at the Pinehurst Country Club around 10-10:30 and have lunch at the Donald Ross Grill around 11:30. After lunch, our plan is to head over to Sports Leicht (http://www.sportsleicht.com) to tour Bjorn Nordemo’s famed Mercedes Benz restoration shop. Bjorn always promises to have some interesting projects underway!

Please RSVP no later than January 3rd to either this thread or '[email protected]' if you plan to attend. I need to give the Pinehurst staff a count so they can accommodate us along with the regular golfers.

For those in the Raleigh area, we’ll be gathering at the Porsche/Jaguar/Audi dealership in the Cary Auto Park at 8:30 AM and then caravan to Pinehurst from there. We’ll depart from the Auto Park around 9:00AM.

Here’s a link to last years’ gathering:

Look forward to seeing everyone in Pinehurst!

Thank you sir, I try. :)

Funny thing is she's a result of the FCA Beach Trip in '07. Met Todd & Sherry Tanner at the event and they set me up with Whitney (Sherry's cousin) a couple months later.

Spoke with Bjorn at Sports Leicht today. For those who attended last year, you'll get to see the Packard and Gullwing that were in process then. If you'll remember, there was a gullwing in the back part of the shop stripped to bare metal on the rotiserie...it is still there, but much work has been done. Bjorn said there is also a 246 Dino being worked on.

Always promises to be a great tour! Thank you Bjorn!

    Hi Greg,

Please add myself and my wife, Dene. She might have to work but if so I might bring another car enthusiast friend. I do not know what vehicle I will be driving. I am still waiting for the coil bracket for the electromotive :(.

    Thanks,
    Seamus

    Hello -

I am a lapsed FCA member, but this sounds like a great way to get reacquainted and rejoin. I plan to meet in Cary and join you on your quest. If the weather cooperates, my wife will join me.

    Thanks for posting this information.

    Len

I think Ingrid and I will be there as well - weather/work permitting. We can meet at Pre-Owned too, if everyone would like. Look forward to seeing everyone.

Although I plan to be at the Pinehurst ride, unfortunately it won't be in a Ferrari. I do have a fun toy - a stock Mini Cooper - red/white, 6 speed. Not a Ferrari by any stretch of the imagination, but a great car for daily commuting and not very expensive - lots of fun in turns, but bouncy on longer highway rides (I'm getting old). Still prefer rear wheel drive.

I have had several Italian cars - 1968 Fiat 850 spider - I bought it new, way back when during my high school years. I love Alfa Romeo, and owned a 1984 Alfa Romeo GTV-6 - great fun car, bad valves; a 1994 164LS - great road feel, but not a front wheel drive fan; and a 1991 Veloce spider - bought from a local seller and redone by Peter Krause - a great guy and terrific mechanic - I asked him to do whatever he would do if it were his car - He did a terrific job, and his prices were very, very reasonable. More importantly, he did lots of little things that I would never have known about, and didn't do some things that weren't needed - watching my budget. He's become a friend, and I HIGHLY recommend him for whatever you need. (He now focuses on racing, and his old shop is still going strong). I'm sorry I sold any of my Alfas - something about Italian vehicles that can't be explained unless you had one.

Also had a Ducati 916 (great at VIR, a true work of art), and a Moto Guzzi California - less great at VIR, but I rode it during a Keith Code SuperBike class as a treat for my 50th birthday. (If you want an incredible driving experience try a motorcycle class at a racetrack taught by top notch instructors. Keith's Kawasakis will go 0-60 in 2.6 seconds, 0-100 in 6.7; turn quarter miles in just over 10 seconds at over 135 MPH - 200 HP/litre and 16,500 Redline - and they only cost $10K new).

I now have the Mini as my daily ride, and my wife drives a 3 Series BMW - my previous daily driver. I still have a two wheeler - my 2004 BMW R1150R - dual spark version. I'd drive it across the US tomorrow without any concerns at all.

One of the things you learn when you have champaign tastes and a beer budget is how to find cars and bikes with personality and a soul - and then drive the wheels off them.

If I had sold my stocks last year I'd be riding in a 550 today (my dream car - black/tan). But I didn't, so I have the Mini.

See you at Pinehurst, and maybe at Brier Creek on Saturday.
