A main theme running thru the classic car universe is that as current owners and enthusiasts "age-out" the "next gen x" or y for that matter, will NOT play along and thus these cars will have a "dimishished audience"; well, the gents in this video look pretty damn young to me. Perhaps all is not lost btw, agree that not much "prepping" taking place.....more like ogling, no ear plugs! Jack
Spectacular car!!! Its unfortunate that, in many ways, its being vastly overshadowed by the GTO. It might be great for the seller of this car though. PDG
As someone whose age sits between Gen X and Gen Y, I know plenty of younger friends who are into BMW 2002s, 105 Alfas and Datsun 240Z's. Many of those appreciate the old Ferraris too but obviously think of them as unaffordable. It will only take a few of those to become successful financially to keep the old Ferrari market market going.
Well Marcel it seems you now need to revise your GTO figures. Yes indeed you can find a GTO for under $35 million(ok if only it is Hammer price....!
Steve: Here you go. Ridgley collection photos given to me by Mike Sparken. The nose vents were there fairly early in Mike's ownership and may have been from new. I do not know for sure anymore. Here. And by the time when Wilson had 06701 in May 1969 it still did not have the three GTO-type air intakes in the nose. Pobrejeski/Sparken got it in June 1971 only (at this point the car was six years old already). Only in 1985 Sparken had the 3 air intakes added. Work was done in Modena (not at the factory). Interesting. David Piper told me, years ago, that he and his mechanic had added the nose vents to 06701 for Sparken at his house in the south of France...but perhaps he was confusing tasks.
Thanks Marcel. Is there any proof the nose and bonnet scoop were made like that by the Factory/Scaglietti, and from new? The rest of the body looks just like a standard Clienti Competizione. However, it's also claimed that the car has smaller dimensions than a road going 275 GTB?
I have crystal clear pix showing 06701 at the factory 23 April 1965, taken just after completion, and it looks absolutely identical to the photo in post #66, without the 3 GTO-type air vents, same bonnet scoop, etc. Marcel Massini
Great. Thank you, Marcel. What about the dimensions of the body? Do they differ to a standard 275 GTB as 06885 does with that car being lower and wider? There's what's stated to be a 1965 pic in Ian Webb's 275 book of 07185 with a standard looking nose on it. It's only the wraparound rear window that looks different.
Steve, if you get the chance/ get access, I highly recommend going back to Dyke’s work in Cavallino for coverage on these 3 cars. I remember reading it *back when* and learning a lot from his detailed coverage.
