This car can not have a factory classiche certificate with 100 points.

Nobody says it has the red book.
Also, what do the "100 Points" have to do with Classiche?
"100 Points" play a role in concours such as Pebble, Cavallino, FCA, etc.
See also IAC/PFA (International Advisory Council for the Preservation of the Ferrari Automobile) rules.

    Hello,

David Piper told me many years ago that he and his mechanic added the GTO type vents on #06701 for "Mike Sparken" aka Michel Poberjesky at his place in the south of France as it kept overheating.

When I did the research on my two part article on the most famous in this tiny group, #6885, for my feature in Cavallino twenty years ago I recall very well receiving the Le Mans pit notes from Jacques Swaters mentioning the overheating and how they had to do a Frankenstein nose job on it to improve cooling...you know the photos with the crude cut out in the nose...so the car inherently needed more air circulations but what do you do now, make it factory correct and unusable except in cold weather or leave as it has been known to be for decades, but NOT from new or a year or two old like some others accepted by Classiche as period modifications? I vote for the latter.

    Best regards,

    MS

This car is really not a sister car to #6885. It is a normal body 275 GTB/C modified to look more like #6885. Are the rear vents even original?? What about the engine cover scoop? We know the GTO front vents are not original along with some of the nose.

Tom you are mistaken, don't concentrate on the body, all three cars were different body wise, read the auction catalog bio which has all the information. It is what is under the body that matters: this is NOT a standard 275GTB/C. It is one of three of what is commonly called a 275GTB/C/LM, a whole other level up from normal C's.

    All the best,

    MS

I read that part but it is a normal body GTB/C made to look more like #6885. I think that was a mistake by the owner. It is sort of a "hot Rod" GTB/C with a bastardized body. #6885 was alot more modified and was a factory race car raced by the factory. I have seen over the years this car being talked about in higher regard than it deserves.

Do you have an unpaid bill from the current owner of the car;-)? I will leave at this, your view does not match the acknowledged facts.

    All the best Tom,

No....And I understand this is a speciale car, just not nearly as special as #6885. By the way, does anyone have a good picture of this car when new??

Check out the footage about this car on YouTube Tour Auto 1997. Great racing and I believe Derek and Phil Hill are driving this car. Amazing sound.

Correct. But soon thereafter Derek had some "troubles".

3 and 3 GTO-style air intakes on nose (and below grille) were added later.
Also leather straps on hood. Born without.
Originally painted Rosso Cina, then brown metallic with a silver stripe.
Now gunmetal with a silvergrey stripe.

Cavallino 110 of 1999 has an excellent article on 06701 explaining it's background and the changes that were implemented with time. This is 06701 when it went racing for the first time in it's life: at Coys's Historic Festival, Silverstone July 30, 1995. © unknown

There is also ' tour auto 1997 archive " on You Tube in French. I love the part where Derek says " it has a lot of power, but the brakes don't work! " And Phil urges him to get going.

The other two cars do just fine without the GTO vents. These cars aren't doing 24h races anytime soon.

I refer you to this part of my statement quoting David Piper: it kept overheating. They did not do it to make it look pretty, it was functional and that car never raced so it shows it did not take that much for it to overheat.

Don't forget this was a much more high strung engine hence likely needing more cooling air flow.

I don't know how much activity the third car has had but I don't believe it has been raced in period, hence the need for additional cooling may not have emerged.

Are these three specials lumped togehter because of their similar engines? Because I've seen 6885 and 6701 in the flesh and body wise they're quite different. 6701 is much closer to a regular 275 GTB.

From my archive: Bodywise they indeed show differences, quintessential is all three had very light weight aluminium bodies built on leightweight frames tipo 563/Comp. Each was built with a special engine to 250/275 LM specifications tipo 213/Comp., has tipo 130 competition camshafts, dry sump lubrication system and 6 Weber DCN2 carburators.

I'd never heard of this model before today. Beautiful car, and one of only 3 made, though I think the design of the GTO is prettier. Looks like a cross between a 275 GTB/4 and a 250 GTO.

There's speculation that it may end up being the most expensive car to be sold at auction, beating previous GTO auction prices.
