he did not mention the word "BoP"
He liked racing the Porsche but could not really race against them. He also wrote something about the rules (14 laps max)

Imho he and many others of Ferrari team, but also Aston Martin are PIxxED.
LM is a high speed track, where you need top speed.
I think an unrestricted 488 against a Porsche RSR 2016 (not the mid engined prototype) would beat Stuttgart purely due fuel efficiency and aero.

Maybe Ferrari needs to sponsor the ACO with gigantic banners everywhere around the track and sponsor the pace car and officials cars (now BMW.......will BMW win GT-Pro in 2019?)

Le Mans: why Ferrari is silent after the beating in GTE / Pro for the BoP?
    By: Franco NugnesResponsible Director

The 488 GTE EVOs managed to be protagonists in a few sprints of the race when they raced with new tires to the qualifying pace, but they never fought for the podium. Let's find out why and what could happen ...

In Maranello, for the moment, they decided to keep quiet. An old popular adage said that silence has gold in its mouth. And Antonello Coletta does not want to let go of the scorching disappointment of the Sarthe: the director of Ferrari Corse Clienti and GT is collecting data, irrefutable numbers and then, perhaps, it will touch someone else to make the big voice with the ACO and the FIA?

Silence is symptomatic and must trigger alarm bells, because in Maranello they are not used to collect a bitter defeat by keeping everything in their stomachs, a sign that at any moment a reaction may
come, if there are not any adjustments, which could also lead to extreme measures that are being examined by the President.

Why who saw Ferrari at Le Mans? In the GTE / Pro class the WEC 2017 world champion team has held on to fifth place with the crew of the 488 GTE EVO # 52 of Vilander / Giovinazzi / Derani classified in 3 laps by the winning Porsche 911 RSR.

In short, a real debacle, since Pier Guidi / Calado / Serra have closed seventh class and Rigon / Bird / Molina even noni. In fact, in Maranello there was no surprise because the Balance of Performance decided for the 24 Hours (different from that of WEC) penalized the cars of the Cavallino already at the table, almost to want to remove them from the field even before the start.

Do you want some data? The 488 had to weigh 1,291 kg against the 1,269 kg of the 911 RSR with a difference to the Porsche of 22 kg. And even at the level of the tank's capacity at Ferrari were only granted 93 liters against the 101 liters of # 91 of Christensen / Estre / Vanthoor that won with the "pink pig" replica.

So much stuff, considering that the "others", namely Ford, BMW and Corvette were found with values between Porsche and Ferrari, with the only Aston Martin Vantage Amr that benefited from aid but with a car not competitive for problems of youth.

Who followed the 24 Hours of Le Mans will have seen that in some moments the 488 seemed able to support the pace of the first, but perhaps has escaped more than one that the Ferrari could express themselves at best only when they put the new tires: the excellent James Calado in the fights between the Ford at the end of the driving shift slipped inexorably to the ninth place in the class, while the top Porsche allowed themselves a step of absolute safety, being able to count on the indisputable technical superiority.

The crux of the matter is that over the entire French marathon the gap between the 911 RSR and the 488 GTE EVO was 1 "1 per lap. The riders of the Cavallino had to face every stint at a pace practically from ... qualification.

Because the regulation of this 86th edition, with the obligation to make pit stops after every 14 laps and having a minimum refueling time of 34 "has swept away any race strategy: those who went more slowly could try to save tires and gasoline for to lengthen one's turn one turn in an attempt to make a supply in the arc of the race. This year was not possible, so the absolute values decided by the discussed BoP emerged.

It is no coincidence that Ferrari drivers in constant pressure have been those who have collected more penalties: Miguel Molina, after destroying the splitter on the debris left on track by the crashed ByKolles, he got 3 minutes penalty for being out of the pit lane with the red light.

Antonio Giovinazzi, however, did not immediately enter the pit limiter twice and then also entered too fast in a slow zone, in turn adding penalties, but the pilot of Martina Franca, at the debut of Le Mans, after a start (rightly) cautious has shown what pasta is made, giving show with the # 52 which in the end was the least worst Ferrari.

And you can not put the cross on Giovi for the penalties, because even without his 488 was not a podium, while it was pleasant to discover that the third pilot of the Scuderia as soon as he smells the bagarre galvanizes pulling out that talent that led him to taste with merit the F1.

The technicians of the Cavallino have complained of a 488 not fast on the obverse that forced the pilots to play all the way in the curve, taking more risks than necessary. Calado's frustration, for example, was seen when the Englishman stood in the wake of the Porsche 911 head in a phase where the two cars found themselves close and James began to push and the "pink pig" on the arrival straight. What did he have in mind?

We went to comb through the maximum speeds and it turned out that the Ferraris were 3-4 km / h slower than the Porsche: a difference not such as to justify the long faces of the Rossi. But we did not stop at the first data and it turned out that the 911 RSR reached the maximum speed long before the 488 that paid a gap of about ten km / h in the phases of the straight. And one understands, therefore, where the great difficulty of Af Corse cars was.

The second and third place in the GTE / Am were saved by the Spirit of Race team from Fisichella / Castellacci / Flohr and the Keating Motorsport team with Keating / Blekeemolen / Stolz. But there was also a Porsche to win, that of the Dempsey - Proton Racing team.

In short, Ferrari has left Le Mans with broken bones: once the pain has vanished it will be interesting to understand what the medicine will be. Because Marchionne is not a type of homeopathic treatment ...

Ferrari need to race with a 430 GT2, so no restrictions would apply and we would win easily.

BTW, what´s the "official" reason for the 14 laps per stint limitation? Tyre degradation? Driver fatigue?

It was all part of the BoP. Stint limits, fuel flow rates, min pit stop times, etc... way too complicated.

Official reason: unknown / BOP related features
Real reason: so that race strategy is the same for everybody and we are sure Porsche gonna win.

So teams can not use tactics on saving fuel and do less pitstops

That's silly. They already have bopped the fuel tank size. Oh, well...

    Dumb it down for fans.

Instead of trying to play out cars on different strategies they are all the same.

Keep the field closer by artificial means.

I would rather just have them race, and work it out in my head. More engaging, because there is more to follow.

I think this is a weakness in the Ferrari camp, and the reason why the ACO doesn't take it seriously.
Ferrari is the only make that goes into WEC represented by private teams.
All the other manufacturers (Porsche, Ford, Aston, Corvette and now BMW) enter factory teams.

    BMW: Mtek

On paper not “works” but who pays most if not all of the bills...

As far as I know, works teams are allowed in GTE.
