Alastair, sorry to hear that you are selling your car before you are ready to do that but I wish you all the best in either getting some good value for it or finding a way to keep it. 365GT4 2+2 Total production 525, of which 109 reported as RHD. 400 Total production 500 (or 501 depending on source), of which 147 were GT 5 speed (21 RHD) and 355 automatic (101 automatic). 400i You should know that there were 424 5 speed 400i versions produced from 1979-85 (compared to 884 automatics) of which Maranello Concessionaires has reported that 31 were RHD (compared to 171 automatics). 412 For the 412, Ferrari Market Letter has reported total production of 576 comprising 270 5 speeds and 306 automatics. Maranello Concessionaires reported that UK RHD production totaled 85 comprising 24 5 speeds and 61 automatics. In summary then, the number of RHD 5 speeds by model is: 365GT4 2+2: 109 400: 21 400i: 31 412: 24
So in the rarity stakes, there were less 400GT's made than any other variant of the series. From a manufacturing point of view Alastair wins this argument, by a very small margin agreed, but he wins nevertheless. p.s In the UK 147+355=502 which conflicts with both the total production figures mentioned so who knows, maybe there was a unique 400 made which was both manual AND auto ?
Simon Me too!!!!, regards to the Aussies doon there. I will up my hunt for rich missus. Regards Alastair
Thanks John Thats helpfull with the production numbers too. Would be great to find out how many RHD400Gti manuals there are left out odf the production of 31 and how many of the 24 RHD 412 manuals are left? Any case all good info. Regards Alastair
Russ Now that would be a rare one 5speed and auto!!! Now ime confused!! So I think we have Worldwide 5 speed manual gearbox RHD and LHD cars production Nos as follows. 365 GT4 2+2 All Manual 525 400GT Manual gearbox 147 400i manual gearbox 424 412 manual gearbox 270
My data is compiled from a number of sources, including Cavallino, Ferrari Market Letter, the Ferrari 412 book, Maranello Concessionaires and a variation of a few numbers in production between sources is the norm. Sometimes the RHD and 5 speed breakouts come from a source that is different than the aggregate numbers. As an example, total production of 400i models has been reported as either 1,308 or 1,294 and the difference is accounted for by the fact that 14 cars were produced in January and February of 1985 before production switched over to the 412. The lower number assumes that all 1985 production was 412s but that wasn't the case. As for surviving numbers, that is a lot more difficult to determine but maybe some of the others on here can chime in. I have tracked the 400i 5 speeds in particular and estimate that, out of 424 produced worldwide, fewer than 50 have been spotted or known to be in the U.S.
And an interesting factoid that I published about these numbers a while back is that they add up to 1,366 across all of the models, which is just about the number of Daytonas produced, making these cars just as rare, if not more valuable!
Just for info I got numbers from this thread on this website... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/ferrari-discussion-not-model-specific/196388-ferrari-road-car-models-production-numbers-8.html
Guys, I have to be careful expressing an opinion on this thread as I'll be rightly accused of having a vested interest (!) however I can add a stat: - out of the 28 RHD manual 400i's imported to the UK it is estimated there are c10-15 still on the road. This was Mike Lester (QV)'s anecdotal number based on the ones he has seen / knows Otherwise, Alastair I wish you best of luck selling your lovely car. I've had less interest than expected in selling mine - hence the reduced price - but I think this reflects the fact it's a small community. For the knowledgeable few, they 'get' these cars, many others don't...but they're still wonderful machines!
Thanks Nick best of luck with yours. You hit the nail on the head with your comment about people getting them and not. Even unbiased specialists in all Ferrari models such as Roseneath engineerings Phil Stafford admitted that alongside all the other models these cars are really very very good! There have also been some quite massive money full on restorations by Ferrari Classiche so people are prepared to lavish money on them but like you say its a very small market indeed. Regards Alastair
If you are planning a trip to Sweden, dont hesitate to contact me and I will try to help You find the nice places. I have approx 3 hours drive to the "salmonplace" Mörrum Good luck with the sell, sorry for Your decision
Thank Ulf Sweden is definitely the place for Salmon (Lax) We have a friend up in Ornskoldvik he has a cabin in Saxnas really great trout fishing there also. The beer is not too bad either! Must be fantastic driving around in Ferrari cars up there lucky you. Enjoy and thanks for the good words. Regards Alastair
Hello all just for info an update on 21341 after 2 months on the market. Ive had it on 2 free sites here in the UK and as you know ime a bit of a reluctant seller for some reason I have just not got round to trying harder! In any case I have had 3 different folks enquiring no offers and one gent who is on holiday waiting his interest. Also got an offer from a 'very famous' car dealer who usually sells very very important cars as hes a gent he was more trying to help me out really. Coys have been in touch and kindly offered for me to put it in for there October sale. Where am I at? Put it this way every time I drive the car I say to myself ' Theres no way I am ever going to sell this' I am still trying to find ways out of selling. Otherwise all ok. Regards Alastair
Alastair I was wondering what was happening with your car. I'd sell it to that nice gent who is doing you a favour. Not. Keep driving it while you can and with any luck you'll be able to keep it. Aidan
Now ime really worried Ive got a real potential buyer! help. I will be strong. Its like torture to be honest. Its just that ive put so much god dammed work, emotion in this car and there is no chance of me getting another 400GT manual ever again is there? (Tassie Russ and I will be over!) Once ive won the lottery! Ime not going to give this up lightly that's for sure! Regards Alastair
Alistair, I have had several BAD experiences with auction houses including Coys, and that is as a buyer. As you guys know I don't sell! Tread VERY cautiously and read all the fine print because they come after you with very big legal costs from a well oiled litigation driven operation. I for one NEVER look at let alone bid any more for anything at auctions. Just my two cents worth. PM me if interested.
Tassie Thanks very much for info. I actually called to say unfortunately I was withdrawing the car because I have a serious enough 'potential' buyer! I have been offered on the phone £28 000 by a gentleman who gets the whole thing he understands he wont be buying perfection he understands he will be taking on more works and I will help him BUT and you and I know its a big BUT, I am being brutally honest here ive nothing to hide I just cant bare the thing going ide rather be dragged through a bramble bush backwards! It is purely financial reasons for the sale so if it does go I promise to be thankful for what I have had rather than act spoiled for what I lost. Aye the good Aussies are looking after us Cheers from Scotland Regards Alastair
Tassie correction I promise to act spoiled throw all my toys out of the pram and cry and scream and demand ice cream and stuff if it does go. All good fun Alastair
Update on 21341 Thanks for the good words moral support all, looks like I can now just about afford to keep the car so Ime back! To be honest my enthusiasm for selling the car was based upon necessity of £s that thankfully has passed by. during my meagre attempt to sell for info I put it in 2 free sites and had some small interest its still on classiccarsforsale site but I will just let the add run until it times out. I had some gent offer 28k and a possibility of going to auction plus 2 or 3 lowball offers, I never got to seriously putting it on the various European sites so difficult to tell whether my price or market is right at the price I asked of 38k In any case I am feeling 'better' now! just didn't really feel right selling ive put too much effort into this car so for now continuing to enjoy, Ive been driving the car a lot and will continue to look after and maintain as much as possible. Its an absolute joy. Regards Alastair
That's great news ! Financially we all have to "cut the cloth accordingly" sometimes but letting your baby go under these circumstances would have cranked you forever. Even though your no-sale means prices are still languishing in the doldrums I'm sure like me every one of us is really happy for you.
Cheers Russ still up for that beer, will potentially be exhibiting in London again later so will keep you informed. Meantime Yeha Alastair
