Well I didnt imagine doing this but life as an artist will not permit the indugence any more. I have had fantastic fun on the journey from aquiring the car on the phone! to all the blasts around including a classic eurotour to St Tropez.

    But she has to go.

Also like to say at this point thank you very much to all you on Ferrarichat for your kind help and advice which has been invaluable so cheers to you.

I can't believe you are selling it, but you've had a good time putting those miles on the car.

I seem to remember you were going to take it on salmon fishing trip to Scandinavia - did you do that trip? Catch any fish?

    Cheers

I will concentrate my efforts on 'marrying into wealth' and it might not be too late to take it off the market!
All good fun, will be interesting to see the response whether it will sell ok and how long it might take. (hopefully longer than it takes to marry in to wealth) and our Scottish summer of driving which is fabulous! As they say the party aint over till the fat lady sings!
    Best Regards Brett from Scotland

Shame about that fish... combining your 400 with Spey casting for huge salmon would have been a dream.

Best of luck with the sale. If were still in Blighty I'd be interested.

Now THAT wasn't something I expected to see first thing on a Friday morning (or should that be spelt mourning?).

I know how much the 400GT means to you so this is a real shock.

We should create a consortium with a number of investors each putting in a set amount (say 38 investors of £1000 each) - you become the curator who runs and maintains the car and when it goes up in value we all make a profit - that way the car stays in Scotland - which is where it belongs.

You may all think I'm daft (which is true) but if these cars go crazy in price one day you'll regret not considering the idea.

God. I'm full of good ideas !

Yep its a sore one. Its humbling to get the nice words from you guys on the forum. Just shows the true enthusiasts of this model. Russ I am a 400 fan with or without one thats for sure. But the story isnt over just because ive put it on the market it may take too long to sell and I find another way in the meantime I will enjoy the car. Heres to you Russ.

That would be fun. if Tassie was the sole proprietor of every 400GT on the planet I think Enzo Ferrari would have been impressed by that. Tassie if your out there mate the answer is NO!!

Alistair, the car looks very nice, its a shame you have to sell it. Are you sure about the asking price though? Nick(on this forum) has had his 400i manual which is mint for sale for at least 6 months at £28000 with no takers, its now down to £25000 at Rardley. Also Chris Evans 412 manual with 30k miles had an asking of £28000.

I really hope you do sell it for near your asking as that makes mine worth more than i thought!

Me too! I am very much hoping to get out of selling the car 'BEFORE' somebody makes me an offer I cant refuse. So in all seriousness it needs to go I am still trying to find solutions that will permit me keeping.
On the price its based on the rarity of the car I think the price would be about £10000 less if it was a 412 0r a 400i in the same condition as there are far more of those cars in existence. There are only 3 of the 400GT left in the UK soon money wont be able to buy you one!
Whether I will get this price or not depends on who I market it too, how long ime capable of waiting!!! I may end up having my hand forced and sell for less out of pure necessity but in all my dealings with the model and the proper costs involved in ownership and this particular car and works list/ condition the price is right. at any price you are only entering into the cost of maintaining/restoring especially the older cars unless the car has been to Ferrari Classiche for the big bucks resto or smaller specialists. At which part of that cycle you want to enter ownership at the end of the day it will add up whether you buy perfect half restored or basket case.

I'm here Alistair, haven't logged on for a while though.
Try thinking of it another way, if the car was worth 4,500GBPS would you still want to sell it?
The thought did occur to me to hoover up all remaining 400's, but then I thought who would I have to play with?
I hope you find a worthy person to entrust guardianship of your treasure.

I hope you get top dollar for it Alistair, but its not worth £10k more than a 412/400i RHD manual. Regarding rarity , According to threads on here there were 28 RHD 400i manuals, 27 RHD 400 carb manuals, 24 RHD 412 manuals produced so rarity is similar, espacially when you consider 122 RHD 365s were made so rarity isn't such a factor.

In valuation terms of these manuals i would put 365 first, then 412 then 400 carb then 400i (which is a pity as i've got the last one ;-) (assuming they're all in similar condition).

As i say please don't take this a slight against your lovely car, i really do hope you get what your looking for.

aye you would be on the list of people that deserve it. certainly it wouldn't feel lonely! out there with its mates. Aye whatever I get eventually I need the dogh just now so we will see. But I will be looking for a solution that involves no selling of me favourite car! Good on you down there best regards from Scotland Tassie.

Fair point you may be right I haven't actually checked the numbers of 412 rhd manuals or 400i manuals I have only assumed that there are far more? We should start a thread and see if we can find out???
The reason I put the value of the 400GT is the production numbers of 365s were 525 compared to 147 of 400GTs means there are a lot more 365s around just now to chose from so you can pick them up relatively easy compared to manual 400GT are there really as few 400i manuals around as 400GTs? surely theres a load of 412 manuals around at least a few dozen compared to the 400GT?
I could be wrong here with my valuation here so happy to be corrected lets try to find out about current 400i manual numbers and 412 manual numbers in existence that will tell us which cars are the rarest and potentially investible or more valuable in those terms.
    Regards
    Alastair
