So, the Celtics won tonight and are up 3-0. Odds of Mavs pulling it off is now +2000 (implying $100 bet wins $2000).

Suppose you have a Celtics championship futures ticket you paid $100 for with a $1200 payout. Assuming you can place live bets in Vegas where odds are fluctuating throughout the games, what bets would you make moving forward to minimize risk/maximize reward?

If I had a Celtics winning ticket, at this point with them up 3-0, I wouldn't bet anything more. Chances of Dallas coming back to win 4 straight are astronomical.

One of the ideas I had:

    1. Put a $200 bet on the Mavs to win it all for a $4k payout.

    - If Celtics win Game 4, I win $1000. If they lose, it goes on.
But during the game, I would look for Dallas leads where there could be +500 (or more) opportunities for a Celtics win with a $100 bet. For Example, if the Mavs are leading by 10 in the 4th, it could take $100 bet to win $500 if the Celtics win. I would come out up $1500 with a Celtics win.

-If Celtics win Game 5, I win $1000. -$minus small bets placed in Game 4. If they lose, it goes on.

-If Celtics wing Game 6, I win $1000 (minus any small bets I place on Celtics in between).

-If it goes to Game 7 in Boston, I’ll have to hope for even money (or better) opportunities during the game to place a $2k bet. If this bet could be executed, doesn’t matter who wins, I’ll come out on top. If Celtics win, I’m up $3k. If Mavs win, I’m up $2k.

    Thoughts?

When the Celtics were up 20+ points early in the 4th, there was a live bet where $100 paid out $2200-2500 if the Mavs won the game. I had a buddy in Vegas place 2 $100 bets for me for a total payout of $4700 had the Mavs won.

Those who watched the game know the Mavs came back and were down by 1 with a few min left. So close :).

These would be the type of live bets I would hunt for with a decent multiplier … 5x+.

In my opinion, it would be $200 of lost/wasted money. Never say never, but I just don't see Dallas coming back and winning 4 straight. If they do, I owe you $200 LOL.

Again, my opinion is quit while you're ahead....for now....by that, I mean, leave it as is, and if it goes to game 7, then you can hedge your bet by placing money on Dallas so that you will be guaranteed some sort of payout.

I haven't gambled on sports in a loooooong time...but when I did, I was very disciplined and was content with quitting for the day once I won (it was mainly on NFL games). I would bet on a 1:00pm game (Eastern Time, so the first game slot of the day) and when it came in as a winner I wouldn't bet any more that weekend.

I feel real good right now for Al Horford (my fellow Gator, who had played 185 playoff games without a title) and Jaylen Brown (my fellow Mariettan, who I saw play at Wheeler H.S.).

Then there's my dad's second cousin Red Auerbach, who's probably smoking a victory cigar somewhere.......
