Agreed! Assuming clean carfax…this would definitely be a great deal/set a precedent/bad omen. I mean, the spec is very nice imo, and unless there’s unknown repairs, or reason being owner “needs” to get out quickly, etc..it’s a VERY good deal.
Or it just follows the depreciation waterfall of all V8 front engine Ferraris. Cali T's are about to hit the 100k mark. Portofinos are down to 150's.
While the $170k asking price on the Roma advertisement above is at least $30k below the lowest asking price for 2022 cars in the US on Autotrader, a single car does not inform the market well. The car is offered as private sale, there may be compelling reasons for quick sale, or maybe other reasons not known via the ad. On time scales longer than 3 years almost every new car sold follows depreciation curves, in amounts per year or percentage per year. One should be prepared for those value reductions and purchase cars for which that issue does not cause discomfort. It is all too common for people to lease a car or take a loan, crash it, and discover they are way in the hole on what is owed. When thinking about long-term depreciation on decades-old cars, think about maintenance and inflation effects on that dollar figure. Older cars have opportunity cost as well, they rarely beat a passive index fund. Enjoying what one can afford is important for emotional contentment.
asking prices on Autotrader, that's funny. here's an actual auction price last month. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2021-ferrari-roma-8/
Roma MMR retails are around 190k and wholesale somewhere in the 170k range. Id love to see an analysis by Fourwheel Trader on whats driving it, they are getting destroyed at the moment.
Here are the data from Autotrader today for Roma cars offered for sale in the US and where the asking price is shown on the initial visible offer post. Image Unavailable, Please Login Note additionally the standard deviations are smaller when the top and bottom samples are removed. For example, the 2023 standard deviation drops to 16,355 by removing the top and bottom samples.
and that all means ****, why are people even posting asking prices when we have auction sales prices?
The rate of depreciation is surprising since it's really is a great car overall. Beautiful and a great drive.
For sales price prediction, I usually take 10% off the asking price as ballpark for a deal. Autotrader has pretty large data sets available which can be studied over time if so inclined while searching for a car. I have found their data to be retail market informative and also indicative of depreciation. The data set above has 162 cars on offer today. In comparison, Bring a Trailer also displays data, but requires a larger time window to have reliable data numbers. For the Roma, cars sold on BAT within the last twelve months total 7 cars. The data for all 7 are shown below (median and standard deviation information is not useful for such small data numbers of 1 or 2 cars per year of registration). Bottom line of the chart for BAT includes numbers for 90% of the Autotrader current numbers. Note that 5 of the 7 BAT full Buyer Price$ are within one standard deviation of the median of the 90% Autotrader data. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wow, great deal for a very beautiful and capable car. I drove a Roma at my dealership and I liked it, that 8 speed tranny is super slick and seamless. I can't imagine looking at this Roma and a Z06 Corvette and actually choosing the vette.
Manual data collection off the screen, I don't know if an automated data feed is available at either Autotrader or Bring a Trailer. Auction prices, including buyer fee, give a close-to-sold price number on individual cars, rather than the asking prices data (which typically are not selling prices). I don't want to derail the present thread for the advertised car further, I think I will send Rob a note to see about putting a thread together somewhere.
I sent this ad to an acquaintance of mine on Facebook this week. He worked out a deal and is buying the car
Hey Guys, I bought this car from Simon Martin, the one & only owner. It's not reflective of the market. He was fire selling the car, as he is in the process of moving back to the UK to retire & this car was one of his last assets to liquidate before leaving the country for good. He was VERY clear about his desire to see the car go to a fellow Ferrari enthusiast. He was open that he could have sold it through AutoTrader.com, Cars.com, etc. But he ONLY listed it here, as he cared greatly about where the car went next. As a fellow enthusiast, I appreciated that, as he clearly gave up a ton of equity in doing so. From all observations, having visited him in person prior to purchase, money wasn't a factor in his decision making. Quality seller, car had full service history at his local Ferrari dealer. There were zero surprises. He was fully transparent about the car from start to completion of the sale. My wife, kids & I have been enjoying it for the past two weeks & appreciated the deal. Just wanted to update the thread, as BringATrailer had a Roma sell last week, which brought market value, $188,750 + $7500 buyers premium = $196,250. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2022-ferrari-roma-20/ They are still hovering around $200K (listed price) for a 2022, even with miles.
Cars and Bids just sold a Roma for $166.5k. They seem to be dropping down pretty rapidly. https://carsandbids.com/auctions/rEjRgkLR/2021-ferrari-roma
Don't forget the $7500 buyers premium making the total price $174,000.....but yes, even still, soft. Also a year older, as that car is a 2021. Silver cars tend to bring less money & this one has the most boring, bland interior I've ever seen on a Roma. But it did have low miles going for it. As a whole, the entire car market is soft right now. Interest rates are high & from talking to dealer buddies, most of these cars are financed. Look at Chevy, they can't give away a base C8 for $60K.....and have resorted to offering Costco $2750-$3000 additional incentives this month...the starting price on this car 3 years ago was $100K with dealer markups.... So money is expensive & a large chunk of potential buyers are foregoing luxuries from all appearances. Don't even get me started on regional real estate, I can't give away our Florida vacation home. Languishing on the market.
Wholesale for this car is right at 165. Roma market is very soft, and trending softer. Wholesale on this car if TdF is only 2k more.
