PURPLE SECTOR 1 for Yuki Tsunoda on the C4 Tyres. He looses 0.534 through sector 2. The Japanese driver crosses the line with a 1:30.514
Franz Tost already said that Tsunoda surprised them in a very good way for the first test he had with the team. Best japanese driver of all time ?( in the making ) I hope so.
I missed this earlier, it was repeated on Sky by Brundle just now, but apparently Christian Horner said this earlier in the show: ''if only we had found what we did earlier, it would've transformed last year...'' Sounds big...? That little Alpha Tauri looks quite a happy on all tyres. May move that ahead of Ferrari - Aston and snapping at the heels of Alpine... Either way the midfield looks very promising for this season.
I was very impressed with him at F2. Button said at some point last year he regards Yuki very highly...can't say I disagree! We all know that Gasly is a very quick driver in the right car, he might be sweating a bit now!
Hamilton is GREEN in sector 1... through sector 2 +0.488s off. Through the final corners he goes and it's a 1:30.391 on C4 tyres. Russell crosses the line 1:30.600 on C4 tyres
Wow max...that's a serious lap that. Had a mistake in T2, huge off at T11 all the way to the outside in the dirt...and still goes fastest, on C3 tyres!
Yuki is up by 0.2 seconds in sector 1 and locks up at turn 10. Looses some time with a green sector 2. Crosses the line and it's 1:29.282 with a purple final sector.
Overall not bad for Sainz considering he didn’t get all the quali sims of the 2 guys ahead of him. His last attempt wasn’t great but maybe used tires? In any case Leclerc will be better. Alpha maybe giving the rookie a real feel for quali on low fuel. Alfa tend to run realistically with low fuel but still great job by Kimi. Hope Merc and AM are as bad as they look and have reliability issues to boot! Mazepin did okay and pretty funny his irreverence when he radioed “hey guys, check the on-board, I almost ran into Lewis, ha-ha!”
LOL.... but probably true! AM to Merc next week: “hey guys, what did you find out, please advise. Race in one week so need to make the mods. Hurry please.”
Pretty sure the Horner reference relates to RBR not figuring out the nose mods on their car last year due to wind tunnel correlation issues until the last race. Too bad Ferrari couldn’t bother themselves to make a narrow nose earlier so they could have incorporated it into the 2021 car. Alpha Tauri coming good? Some here will disagree; too many Italians, you know.
i think that also applies to McLaren and Alpine. I don’t know that they are playing coy, per se, but stayed focus on car development due to the truncated testing session this year
