I’ve driven many cars past and present. Different make and brand. The most solid daily driver is the e31 840CI. It feels like riding a Boeing 747 but agile like a fighter jet. But it’s aging and 150 horses shy of what’s needed to pull the weight. I and many BMW lovers waited over a decade anticipating the next 8series. Then it came. The biggest let down among BMW enthusiasts. It was like taking a piece of cake from a fat kid. Or hooking up with a hot girl at a party. Waited all night to take her home to find out she’s on her period. Cruel and unusual punishment to say the least. I’ll take water boarding please. Spare me the agony. And just when I’m about to walk in front a firing squad, there’s a reason to live. A 2021 Z4M is happening. 450hp at about 3000 pounds and styling to match. A thoroughbred daily driver I imagine between $80k-$90k. I’ve only seen web pictures. Is this true? Anyone have more informations? Do share. Right now I am a 300 pound 7 years old kid starring down a piece of cake. [emoji56]

I have no additional info, but I like the teasers and my 1999 M Roadster was one of the best care I ever owned, so I think this new one will be great

I had a 1998 M roadster (before they figured out how to put traction controls in it). It is one car I regret getting rid of, I have owned 41 BMW's over the years, and I fully expected the 8 series to be exactly what it tuned out to be. If it were not for the collaboration with Toyota I doubt the new Z4 would even exist. BMW has moved away from pure sports cars (even the M's are just fast fat GT cars), and I will probably get a new 8 series at some point, but I know what it is and what it is not.

The 2001-2 is IMO the best buy. Last of the first gen

2001-2002 models use the engine from the E46 M3. Therefore, both European and North American models use the S54B32 engine. Slight differences in power exist between North American and European Z3M's and all Z3 M roadster S54 engines are down slightly on power compared to the E46 M3.

One way to determine differences in the engines outfitted in each year's production is to refer to the VIN. Because the US S52, European S50 and S54 engines have distinct visual differences, it is also easy to determine the specific engine by looking at it.

The other major addition to the revised M roadster is an M-tuned version of electronic stability control (called "DSC" by BMW). DSC intervention can be reduced or disabled via a console-mounted button.

All S54-powered M roadsters have an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (249 km/h).

I had a few M car in the past. Still have an e30 M3 along with a 95 and 96 840ci. The Z4M handles better than the M3 due to weight. Even though they have the same engine, BMW purposely toned down the Z4M power and other trims to justify the M3 higher price tag. All things equal, the Z4M a better car.

I knew toyota collaborates with BMW on the project. I suspect Toyota puts out the lion share of the cost since The engineering falls to BMW. It makes sense. Toyota bread and butter has always been economic cars. They don’t have a lot of experience making high performance cars. They made an attempt at it. Rumors have it they lost money and the result only get average reviews. The new Supra is reported to have a BMW turbo charged engine and transmission.

High resale value is not what I have in mind. Just wanting the ultimate driving experience in a daily driver.

I dont know if any BMW is the "ultimate driving experience". They do depreciate very rapidly, god bless them and Mercedes. I lost $137,500 on my S65 in 2 years of ownership including taxes, never again will I get a benz or bmw as a daily car.

those days are long gone for BMW, from my recent experience I would say the FIAT Abarth and the Porsche GT3 were a great driving experience in a daily driver.

Kind a coincident you mentioned two brands I never consider owing for one reason. Most folks consider power, function and words on the street all that matter. These only factors in between choices of cars with forms pleasing to my eyes. I will gladly take a lessor function car if it has a better form. I know, I know the saying, “looks is subjective”. If the saying is true there wouldn’t be super models making millions wearing almost nothing. I’m not gonna dare you guys to try wearing almost nothing in public. You will be thrown in jail for obscenity or get placed in an institution.

I can’t see myself driving a fiat. Already been labeled “soft” for owning a 355 Spider F1. Any softer my ego might get bruised. It is very fragile at the moment until I get some tattoos. I’m thinking a red heat with the word MoM in the middle . Anyhow, I can’t see owning a Porsche either. Not until recently Porsche added two more models to its lineup for a total of three choices. A SUV(Cheyenne), a station wagon(Panamara) and the third model that covers anything from a 911 to a GT to a Carrera. I can’t tell those cars apart from the badge in the back. Unfortunately, the trunkless tapered down roofline doesn’t do it for me. That’s pretty much the styling theme for all new cars since the 2000’s. Beside, I won’t pay over 80 for a daily driver.

Driving anything less pleasing to my eyes is like dating an ugly girl cause she’ll try anything once. I rather put up with a pretty girl who is temperamental. I have standard. [emoji41]

Not much I have not owned, I keep a loaded S Class in storage (along with the RR Autobiography), for those times when I need to something to carry more than 2 in comfort (or winter weather). I put less than 2k miles a year on them. People often ask me what car should I buy, I smile on the inside and ask them a few questions, price range, what do you have to have in a car, what do not care about in a car, do you need to be able to drive in more than 5 inches (I have found you can get around in almost anything with the right tires in less than five inches) of snow. What kind of driver are you, What have you owned before. I can usually figure out what car to suggest after they answer those questions. As I'm sure you all realize loosing money on cars means nothing to me (after 466 I have lost more than I would ever admit), but I realize to some that is very important. I really liked my little modified bug (500 Abarth), and am looking for another one, though many of the used ones seem beat up. It would replace my Mini Cooper S which is my summer time shopping car. One thing I always tell people there is a reason some very expensive as very complicated cars loose value so quickly, it is because factored into the value is what it costs to fix them out of warranty. I mean no disrespect to anyone (and I notice the difference in how I am perceived when I am driving the Mini or my dogs Jeep Grand Cherokee), but I am a car lover not a brand lover, and I like the Civic type R (I'd buy one if I could get past all the stuff on the body), and if you only need two seats the C7 is a great drivers car. I like corvettes, and I have found most people who don't cant get past the image they have of them. So next time you are looking for a car ask yourself those questions you may find it helps make your decision easier, but in the end only you know what you can live with.

True, unlike Honda with the NSX and the S-2000 over almost two decades, Toyota has only the 1990s Supra and the recent Lexus LFA.

Had a conversation with my mechanic who works on my bmw’s. He said I can drop an M5/Z8 engine in the e31 and forget about the Z4M because it’s too far down the road.

The E31 is as solid and countable a daily driver should be. The power plant is the weakest link. The 400 + M engine should get it rolling fast.
    hmmmmmmmmmmmm
