When this happens, what indication appears in the display on the tach? Have you tried using the parking brake release (page 131 and following)?

I too have a 2019 Portofino. It has been trouble-free for its 12,000 miles. But I worry for the longer term because of its excessive and unnecessary electronics.

I have heard of this. Next time it happens push the brakes harder then usual..it should release. It's a hill hold feature to prevent the car from rolling back due to an unattentive driver. I think you can shut it off through the dash if I'm not mistaken.. read the manual..

Equivalent of taking your foot off the brake in 1st gear in an F1 Ferrari. Immediately goes to neutral. Ours are not smart enough to do anything else.

Automatic Vehicle Holding (AVH) is described on pages 64 and 132. There is no mention of any way to turn it off.

I recommend NEVER EVER using the parking brake release procedure, there needs to be a huge disclaimer in the guide, something like 'will result in destruction of your rear brakes requiring replacement' (cost could exceed $10,000)...

You might try replacing the EPB module (Brembo is manufacturer) as it is in control when the parking brake (hold mode) engages, it is not that expensive, should be under $2K including installation (EPB=emergency parking brake)

How does releasing the parking brake (which I have done several times) destroy the rear brakes?

To understand, are you indicating you have released the emergency parking brake on a Ferrari Portofino per the instructions in the manual "several times" ? Note, it is the emergency brake that performs the "vehicle hold". If so, why are you doing that? And if so, why do you write your 12,000 mile Portofino is "trouble free"?

The instructions in the manual require the destruction of the EPB mechanism, and because it is integrated into the overall brake (one piece), the entire brake must be replaced, hence the large replacement cost.

"Vehicle hold" is performed by the service brakes, not the parking brakes (page 132). The Portofino has separate calipers for the parking brakes. There are times when you want to roll a vehicle with the engine off or engine idling,so you release the parking brakes. You still haven't explained how releasing the parking brakes destroys the rear brakes.

    "normal use" causes no issues

    per page 133;

    “Automatic Vehicle Holding” AVH function
The electric parking brake provides optimised release when the vehicle
starts up due to its Automatic Vehicle Holding function: once the engine
has started, the system keeps the vehicle braked through intervention of
the braking system rather than through the parking brake shoes

my note: however, if the 'hold' function does not release it could be due to malfunction of the parking brake...

    # # #

Per page 177 is the emergency release procedure to release stuck parking brake -- this is the procedure that should have a disclaimer that following those procedures will destroy it and require a very expensive replacement.

Seems we are thinking about 2 different and unrelated scenarios.

In any case, what I am suggesting to OP is that he pull the release lever (pages 131 and 132) if he finds himself stuck again and see if it has any effect.
