I just purchased my first Ferrari, a mint condition 2018 488 Spider with 3900 miles. When I go to close the trunk and try to get the latch to grab-click I have to push so hard it seems like the aluminum is going to distort. I know where and how to push it, it just seems like it’s to hard. Is this something that I can easily adjust? Is Is this a common issue? Is it a easy fix for a Ferrari dealer?

Same issue with my new F8 Spider. My dealer put washers under the latch to allow it to lock when you drop the hood rather than push down hard.

458 but same issue. It's at Ferrari now for warranty Inspection. Told them to sort it while it's in or replace.

1/16” SS washers under the striker.

  5. Guess it's not "mint condition"?

    I kid, I kid.

Hope you get it worked out soon.

Can you please take a picture for me? Is it the part that is connected to the hood? I looked at it and I thought if I removed that part and put in a spacer -washer it would in essence lower that part so it would engage the lock sooner-easier? I have always carefully dropped the hood on all my other aluminum hood cars and it always worked perfectly. I would bring when a mechanic would push down on the aluminum.

The washers weren't put on the hood, but rather under the bottom latch. I'm very happy with it. As hand built cars sometimes things aren't perfectly aligned and my hood was a little lower than it should be compared to the front bumper cover. Now it's perfect.

Now you have me thinking….my hood is aligned perfect with my front bumper and quarter panels. I have to push maybe 1mm past (down) perfect alignment to get latch to click. Once it clicks the hood goes back to perfect alignment. So if I put the washers in , it will click sooner ( easier ). Is there enough play in the catch that adding the washers doesn’t skew the panel alignment? Thanks for your help.

If they put washers in it's going to raise the hood the height of the washers. In my case it was ideal, it may not be in yours. My hood had a divot in it from pushing down at the dealership before I picked it up and they had to pop it out. I didn't want that to continue. The hood was a little low to start with.
If you think yours is perfect as is I'm not sure I would do anything.

Use painters tape to mark the exact position of hood latch striker. Remove the acorn nuts that secure the striker plate to the hood. Remove the striker. Place 1/16” SS washers over the studs. Reinstall the striker plate in its exact original position. Reinstall the acorn nuts and tighten securely. If 1/16” washers are insufficient, you could double up, but 1/8” is quite a lot. I put one 1/16 washer under each Bolt marked (A) it move my trunk up 1/16 in and the trunk does not close any easier.
I’m wondering if the strike mechanism is defective?

It could be out of alignment or need adjustment/replacement. It's hard to say. A trip to the dealer is your best bet.
