Great pics as usual Bill! Thanks for sharing.
It was 100 feet, not 300 feet, but unfortunate nonetheless. We're all glad Byron is ok and that the car can be repaired. JP got down to just a tick quicker than the two Mazdas.
yikes. btw this is the second year in a row the DPs have gotten airborne in practice. no bueno. Image Unavailable, Please Login
great pictures! thanks as always. you really capture these cars well! comment: that looks like Larson among the ganassi boys. comment: I miss the true imsa logo.
Sorry - guess a football field would have really been quite a ride. Glad to hear everyone is OK and the car is fixable. Best of luck!
ECR is Richard Childress' engine shop (used to be Earnhardt Childress, now shortened to ECR, and with no Earnhardt connection). they primarily build NASCAR motors, as one would guess. France/Johnson family/families own Coyote Cars, which builds the DP chassis for....Action Express (and 8Star, who I don't think runs their car anymore, and Troy Flis' operation). it was specifically designed to run with the Corvette body kits a few years ago ('13, IIRC). Thanks! I'm glad everyone likes the pictures and everyone's nice comments keeps me motivated. That was indeed Kyle Larson. The whole group was walking towards me but TK caught my I so I took a few pics of him and when I put my camera down to get out of their way I noticed Dixon and McMurray. I don't know the other guy but wish I had got a group shot from the front with them all in matching jackets. Tagging along behind like a puppy was Larson. I didn't see JPM. I guess he doesn't have a ride this year or maybe he's just waiting for the 24. Took a lot of video today. Lots of good action. Here's a few more pics and I'll post some more tomorrow while I watch some football. JPM drives for Penske now in indycar, so he won't be driving anywhere for Ganassi (or probably anyone else). Roger doesn't like his guys moonlighting much. need more glowing brake pics!!!
From Marshall Pruett's Saturday ROAR report in RACER: How's this for a fun statistic: The DeltaWing DWC13 (RIGHT) recorded the six fastest trap speeds on Friday, peaking at 194.342mph! In fact, 26 of the 30 fastest trap speeds belonged to the No. 0 DeltaWing. That, friends, is damn impressive. Their closest rival, the No. 02 Chip Ganassi Ford DP, reached 193.424mph. Among the P2s, Michael Shank Racing's No. 60 Ligier JS P2-Honda led the carbon fiber coupes at 189.394. Behind the Prototypes, the fastest car went to Konrad Motorsport's no. 28 Porsche 911 GT America at 183.038. BMW was best among GTLM cars—its No. 25 Z4 went 181.014, and the top PC spent was recorded by the No. 16 Bar1 Motorsports entry at 177.866.

I like thinking outside the box or taking an unorthodox approach so the DeltaWing is OK by me During the night practice last year the DW came out of the dog leg and did a slow loop right in front of me and continued driving. Yesterday the same thing happened but this time it appeared to hit the guardrail as from my position I saw the rear get a good five feet in the air. When they hauled it off there didn't seem to be any damage to the front so I don't know what made the rear wheels come off the ground. Was adjusting my tripod for video when it came by and only caught it as it was sliding to a stop. Here are some pics to go with your stats. from what I understand, the DW was damaged by debris from the 50 car's flip down the front straight; it just took a while for the suspension to finally fail. also I notice they aren't running the aero package they introduced at Petit on the DW...I'm guessing it's too high drag (?)
I was looking through my camera aimed down the stretch between the International horseshoe and the dog leg when the DW passed my viewfinder. Then I hear heard the gasps and looked up to see grass flying and the rear of the DW way up in the air. I turned the camera to catch it sliding to a stop. I fully expected to see the front crumpled from an impact. Maybe it just hooked on the slide and kinda jumped in the air from something in the grass. As you can see from these frame grabs from my video the DW was relatively undamaged except for the body part over the left rear wheel and of course the suspension. They hauled it back and had it out running in the next session. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
