they had a long interview on Indycar practice with the owner of that facility, and to be honest he sounds like he has no clue what he's gotten himself into. that facility was basically built as a track day/club racing facility, he got in touch with Andretti Marketing somehow and here we are. I think they're in way over their heads.

picking a race date that competes on the same weekend with one of your region's biggest events is counter to everything I've ever seen from race promotion....as exhibit A, look how upset F1 and WEC get when their COTA dates go up against Longhorns football in Austin.

The problem with that is that all the hotel rooms are booked (and expensive) and restaurants packed for race fans that want to visit. Bad choice IMO. FQF attendees want to listen to music and drink in the FQ, not travel to the westbank for racing.

The best spot in the weather today is between 1-3 for this area.

I disagree. From the people I know that are at the race, they are running into a lot of 1st timers from the region at the track.

As far as traveling to the "west bank" they have shuttle services taking people from downtown to the track.

It's a new track, it's a fast track and people are having a great time. But you guys will continue to dump on IndyCar.

    So carry on...enjoy or not.

    exactly...first timers from the region.

anyone traveling to New Orleans this weekend is doing so for the french quarter festival, not this race.

I think it's great to go to new markets, and God knows IndyCar could use some new fans...but if you want to make the race a destination event, it can't compete with other major events, and it needs to be at a time of year that doesn't see violent storms regularly.

add to that a facility and promoter that doesn't seem to "get it", and by all accounts I've seen/heard I don't think many people are having a "great time".

Agree. The Houston race at NRG is discontinued because it was like a double header in the Sahara. Don't know how the drivers survived. I lost 10 pounds sitting in the grandstand & had to get checked for skin cancer after. It was unbearable. Whoever selected Houston in June was on another planet.

What is the average number of full course cautions in an Indycar race? Seems about every other lap.

    OK,… I gave it a chance.

That was ridiculous. Was there a single complete green flag lap, after lap 15 or so???

    What a bunch of clowns.

Can you imagine paying for a ticket to that circus?

Did NBC cut off the first 6 laps of the race? My DVR started on lap 6. If so, what a DYCK MOVE!

The race was ridiculous. It wasn't a race. It was who could stay out without being crashed into or crashing.

18 laps of green in 1:45.

a bunch of cars torn up.

crewman run over on pit lane.

random "official" runs out to push a car back onto the racing surface under green.

Bourdais almost has his head taken off (and cracks the tub on his car).

    that was a shambles.

How many of the supposed 18 green flag laps were those "restart to immediate yellows"? Another 6 or so… so perhaps only 12 complete racing laps?

    IndyCar should be embarrassed.

first 16 laps were green, and then I think they had two complete green flag laps after that. haven't seen the official box score yet.

I recall a wet race at Vancouver maybe 99-02 timeframe that was equally ridiculous...
