Allmendinger did have enough fuel to finish so that little trip into the grass probably cost them the race. Oh well, he won it for them last year with Alan McNish on his butt. Michael Shank lives 20 miles from me. I was going to a party where all his buddies were. Steve's wife certainly had on her for real Allmendinger driving suit. I'm glad I didn't go. Probably not a happy place.
Wow, all Mazdas out incredibly early... Laps 33, 45 and 51... Does anyone know what happened? That's a shockingly bad debut for their Skyactiv-D diesel... Very uncharacteristic... Somebody just got fired!!! T
two cars dropped pistons and one had a bad rear main seal. a shame, Mazda put a ton of $$ and marketing muscle into that effort and had some serious driver lineups.
Finally finished watching in on DVR after watching almost all of it live... Great job by the boys at Ganassi BMW and wish Forza could have won in GT but at least they finished 3rd and I think a few others were in the top 5 in GT as well...
As a spectator I was very disappointed with the new Mazdas. They were slow, super quiet, look like a family sedan and got lapped around lap 3 by a DP. I really liked the old flame throwing, loud and racy Mazdas and they were fun to watch. I had a great time and I highly recommend the Rolex 24 to anyone that hasn't experienced it yet. It's at a great track, the action was packed and there is always something new to see. With Orlando just a short drive away you could even sneak in a visit to one of the theme parks if you're looking to mix it up. Next up for me is the Winter Test at Sebring but I'm already looking forward to the 2014 Rolex 24 Congrats to the winners and thank you to all those that work so hard to make the Rolex 24 such an enjoyable event. congrats to our own Mike Hedlund for his top 10 in GT with the 458 Audi certainly laid the smack down on Porsche this year; I have a feeling next year there will be two 991s with all factory driver lineups. hopefully a McLaren or two will show up as well

+1! Great stuff as always. Speaking of pics of girls, Day racing at the Rolex 24 at Daytona Photo Gallery - Autoblog. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nothing further from the truth. We had the Ferrari trimmed to the max because our top speed was so low. The audis ran a ton of wing so the speed difference was aero not power. As for lucky we totally expected the two cars to run dry on the last lap and was hoping for one more. We just about squeezed off the upset but Audi was just that little bit better at the end. Total congratulations to them
Yep, real shame; hopefully the Mazda folks keep at it. On a related note my local dealer has 2 of the '14 Mazda6s on the lot and they are sharp looking cars especially the front-end. Tops the Kia Optima as my favorite looking sub $30K run of the mill sedan. And a Glickenhaus.
Interesting...when I saw the Ferrari's running around the tri-oval, it was no competition so I assumed that the Audi's were all grip but no speed (the Audi assumption correct, the Ferrari one was wrong). Very exciting race out there and MANY congrats for getting on the podium. I was fearing the Audi sweep for 13 mins (when they decided not to pit for fuel), so I'm happy you were there to break up their party.
Yep, the Larousse/Kauhsen 917LH that finished 2nd at Le Mans in 1970... the "Hippie Car" Nice to see them pay homage to a great car and era... T Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I fly to Sebring tomorrow for a week working with Porkers! JUST in time to avoid post-Rolex depression...
the 48? I need to move to Florida. I can't believe I just said that . Ok maybe Florida from January through mid March.
i am looking forward to sebring too. i will attend the 12 hr and then do long beach...then it is a long wait for the petit!!
Great racing yesterday. I was hoping my Utah teams, Magnus and Snow would do well, and they did. Audi had some good factory support and you can tell they have endurance racing down to an exact science.
Thanks guys! What a weekend... I'm with Nuvolari on the differences between the GT cars -- just look at the wing angle in all the photos of the Porsches, Audis and Ferraris. We were getting destroyed in the infield and the bus-stop w/ the car completely trimmed out, but it was the only way we could compete. So hard to drive! Every stint felt like it was twice as long as normal. With 2 hours left in the race and our position relatively stable we actually took the time to put more wing back on the car to stabilize it for the first time the entire weekend... and that was with JvO closing out the race. :O -mike
well done Mike! I actually enjoyed seeing the different ways the cars did (relatively) similar lap times; like back in the good ol' days when one car was faster on the straights, another was better under braking, someone else would be quicker off the corners. makes for better racing IMO.
I know Mike knows that I like the car. But if you were not there, take a look. Good Show Mike, you guys did great. You always want to finish, look at the poor 02 car. see you soon.
