Friends, Hope everyone is enjoying summer riding their Horses Switching to a 458 Spider from a 430 Spider. I am stuck between 2012 Spider with 3K miles @ 210K and 2015 Spider with 3k miles @ 230K. Both have options that I desire. Here is the breakdown, I live in CA : Ferrari Dealer : 2012 comes with a 1 yr CPO from the date of purchase from Dealer and its 7yr Maintenance is good until Feb of 2019. In Cali I pay a 10% Sales Tax, so its gonna cost me : 210K +21K = 231K Other Exotic Dealer: 2015 comes with 7yr Maintenance which is good till May of 2022. No Factory warranty but can be purchased. This will cost me : 230K + 23K = 253K Diff is - 22K...is the price diff justified/worth going for a 2015? Factoring depreciation on 2012, out of pocket maintenance cost for the years - 2020, 2021 & 2022? How much would maintenance cost for 3 years?and other factors which might have an impact? I plan to drive the car and not hold it hostage in my garage ..say between 5-7k miles a year, or may be less. Thanks for your time and appreciate your responses in advance.. James
Not sure if there were any issues with the 2012s (I think the 2010 and 2011 coupes weeded those out). If there are no overwhelming issues to worry about in 2012, that weren't also around in 2015, then I'd get the cheaper one myself. Like Harrison Ford said in Indiana Jones, "It's not the years, honey. It's the mileage."
I'd go the extra cash and 2015 model. Why doesn't the later model have factory warranty and the 2012 does? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
2012 is from a Ferrari dealer so they are slapping a 1yr CPO with the car. 2015 is from a non-Ferrari dealer..original factory warranty is only for 3yrs..I can buy extra warranty from a dealer after I buy the car. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ok. I own one and they're great cars. The 2015 would be my choice, all factors considered. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Personally, I would go with the 2015 ....also factor the 7 year MTC plan will run until 2022 which saves close to 7k in service over the 3 years when the 2012 expires. 2015’s are solid so I wouldn’t worry about the 1 yr program on the 2012, and you’re getting a 2015 once you factor saving on the MTC plan your gap is less than 15k for the 2015. Good luck.
As you can see, it's sort of a wash if you're keeping the car long term. You're paying for the free services with the price differential between them. Ferrari dealers are not leaving anything free on the table, per se. I'm a cheapskate though, and would rather use the $15k difference on a nice vacation rather than having the same vehicle with a newer year on the sticker.
FWIW I had a 13, 14 and now 15 458, the latter being a spider. My 15 seems to be the most playful and characterful engine of them. The $230k price you noted is very good! I’d go for that, the last model will always be worth more.
Of course, but SW was updated along the years, esp to Spiders with different mapping. Each engine is also slightly different, and this 15 is a gem.
