Hey everyone, I am looking into buying a 2012 MC Sportline with 65,000 miles (sight unseen)
It has 3 minor accidents on the Carfax. I'm not looking for a garage queen so I am okay with with some paintwork etc.
My concern is mechanicals / electrical issues. From everything I read online, the 2013+ Sport is the car to buy but finding one in the mid 20k range is a challenge unless its got moderate to severe damage on the Carfax...

What sort of issues am I going to face in the higher mileage range in the next 10-20k miles with a 2012 MC?
The only work done that seller can confirm is brakes and I'm told tires are nearly new

The TPMS light is on and I am told the car runs and drives well
The only issue the owner said it has is some sort of noise when making a u-turn
    I assume its suspension related

I can buy the car for a good price, that is why I am considering it despite everything above
Also - I wouldn't be able to get a PPI because the car is sitting at an auction house - it will get auctioned soon
The seller has disclosed everything to the auction from what I can tell but I am sure there will be work to be done

I am wondering if I should take a chance with it?
I am no stranger when it comes to buying cars sight unseen but this is a high mileage Maserati so I'm wondering how risky it is...

Never owned a Maserati but from the research I've done - the 2013+ models are not problematic
Wondering if the same can be said for the 2012 MC?

    Thanks

Can't help you out too much on your specific search, but the GranTurismo is such a great car. We bought a 2011 GranTurismo Convertible new back in Oct 2010 and still have it. We have too many cars so we only have 13,500 miles on it, but have not had any issues other than tires and batteries (plus sticky buttons, but they are easily fixed). It actually seats four real sized people, unlike my wife's Portofino M. .

With the Pininfarina design and Ferrari F136 engine it is a close cousin of my 458 Spider

the only differences between a '12 and '13-17 are the seats and the LED strip in the headlight. I've been in a '12 MC since 2016 with zero issues, its always a pleasure to drive and the sound is addictive.

do you have a link to the auction so we can look; what color is it; northern/southern car; does it have aftermarket stuff on it?

I don't think 65k miles is too much, If you can get the car for under 28k its probably worth a go.

The cars have a great reputation and I've seen lots of them and the sister Quattroporte with 100k miles. Show me a Ferrari with 100k miles. The major problems are electrical and replacement part prices. You need to find a good local knowledgeable shop. Guys on the Maserati forum have talked about quotes of like $5k+ for brakes.
The 2012 model gets you past alot of the earlier model problems.
Since your in N America it is an Automatic not the Automated Manual?
Look at Maserati Forum for more info.

Unfortunately the car sold for 26k.. I couldn't act fast enough so its my loss

My next 3 options are (all coupes):

    2015 GT with 38k miles
    2012 MC with 72k miles
    2013 GT with 70k miles

These are all priced very similarly around $30-35k... I think the answer is the 2015 based on the miles and the fact that the owner says he only took it to the dealer? Or is the MC / Sport trim much nicer to have than base trim? I do like the more aggressive look of the MC but I feel like the updated design is nicer to have

From what I understand the MC doesn't have adjustable suspension either. Is the adjustable suspension a common failure point on these cars? My AMGs have taught me that lesson many times

All 3 cars are being sold by private sellers with a clean CARFAX and up to date service from what I am told
In any case I will get a PPI and likely fly there as well to see / test the car out but first I need to decide...

Which of these 3 is the best car?

yes I am hearing from people that the Automatic ZF is the better option to avoid all the hassle
I assume all the cars 2012+ no matter what trim are purely Automatic?

In USA only 2009 had the automated manual option, since then all USA cars have the automatic.
My 2011 S has around $20k in MC Line carbon fiber. It also has the single rate suspension like the MC. People have said the Skyhook is too soft in comfort and too stiff in Sport. I like the 2015 if it’s one owner with all the service records. I

Having done a bit of research myself I'd say the GranTurismo has 3 (or 4) major issues.
    - Timing variator (Google says engine number <148697 is potentially susceptible to variator issues)
    - Subframe rust
    - MC shift regular clutch wear
    - (Mc Stradale CC brakes)

The good thing about 2012 GranTurismo is that you avoid the variator issue.
