I'm looking at two cars and wanted to get your feedback. One is a 2012 FF NM edition and the other is a 2015 FF. Both have the same miles (20k) and from I can tell have been properly maintained. Both have the same spec except obviously the NM edition has the special colors.

what do you think? Is it better to go with the 2015, seems they are the same car? Any insights are greatly appreciated!!!

By the way the allure to the 2012 is the color combo. The 2015 is just grey and black which is nice also but not the NM color scheme.

Teething pains - batteries, electrics, tech, etc. - seem more prevalent in earlier years of a Ferrari model's life cycle. All else being equal, I'd go for the late model year. Good luck...T

Been done to death before - search is your friend but nonetheless, here we go (again).

    There were very few running changes in the FF’s production life which affect reliability. Ferrari pretty much got it right first time. Comparing 2012 to 2015;

The 2012 will be at risk from brittle tie wraps on the DCT speed sensors.

The 2012 won’t have had pano roof as an option.

Depending on the build date, the 2015 might have the later infotainment unit with carplay.

Outrun says his dealer has told him that later FFs have better software. Nobody has been able to verify this but he did notice a difference in his test drives so bought a later car.

I’d suggest that you drive the two that you’re interested in. If they both drive the same then buy the one you like more.

I have a 2015 and I was looking at 2013, and everyone said to go with the later year model. All the little quirks have been worked out. And I love my 15.

Not sure I'll have the opportunity to drive both of them as they are in different cities. But thank you !

That is great to know. Both cars have been maintained greatly. Thank you!

I have done my research and yes this subject has been beaten. There's nothing that states the cars are different other than one has apple car play. But nothing says that anything else is different. I just wonder if the 2015 tabled the lifters issue?

I'm going to reach out to my friends at Ferrari and see what insights I can get and report back for everyone.

i don’t think that the lifter issue was fixed in serial production but only offered as a retrospective fix for the FF - hence the enormous cost of the new pump and wiring loom.

Since you’ve done your research, you’ll know that the lifter seal can be replaced relatively cheaply.

Hopefully I won’t jinx myself (I have a 2012 car with lift) but I haven’t seen a ‘lifter failure’ thread for a very long time. I wonder if this means that lifters which would have failed due to bad seal installation have already done so and been fixed.

I also understand what people are saying about buying a later model due to running improvements etc but that rule of thumb doesn’t really seem to apply to Ferraris from the 458/Ff/F12 generation onwards. Sure, you get little tweaks like pano roof and carplay but that’s about it. If software is upgraded, it often gets applied to the older cars as well - look at the well documented 458 ecu tune on throttle over-run issue.

Bottom line, buy the car you like (the NM livery one). You can spend $ fixing anything which goes wrong on it but you can’t change the paint and leather without destroying the originality. So thay would rule out the 2015. If you liked them the same, I’d say get the 2015 just because it’s younger. However, all of the cars are getting to the age where you need to buy on condition rather than age and miles.

We’ve just bought an F12 for my wife and went with a 2013 25k mile car with a lower spec because it’s in better condition than a lot of younger, higher spec, lower mileage cars which have clearly been abused.

I’ve just googled the NM spec.

    That Grigio Caldo is choice.

And the semi-aniline leather is a bonus too as it smells better and ages better than the standard leather.

The only thing missing from the NM spec that I would want in a hot climate such as Huston are the ventilated seats. They really are a godsend on hot days.

I don’t see any NM FF for sale at the moment, is it not publicly listed or did it recently sell?

I'd always buy the latest car possible. If it's not the spec you want, wait for another.

If you think about it logically, these are all low volume cars and there is nothing quite like selling a few hundred to learn about what issues will appear. They are teaked, improved and updated through their lifetime. It's true of all low production brands.

I drove 5 before I chose my FF, which is a late 2014 car. It felt tighter and the 4wd was less obvious than early cars.
