Nothing new, the older 4th gen Camaros were very underrated too. They would put down nearly what they were rated at.

Chevy does this to keep the rating away from the Vette, Ford to keep it away from the GT500.

 

And from what I've read, the 5.0 will get a supercharger too.

 

It already does, in the GT350......it is slower then the GT500 though.

 

Well, my wife would draw the line at a GT500 as she's finally looking for an automatic transmission.
