I have a pic of the chassis stamping as well as overview shots of the car, engine, and interior-- will try to post tomorrow.
My main fear would be how much Bondo there is under that new, shiny paint

That's good because we would hate that "vintage" red RTV on the gearbox to be molested and damage the originality (my apologies for the extreme sarcasm here).

Or, why not an M-series over 01250 with the later bumpers?
In any case, it appears that somebody changed the serial number on this car. The individual who did it, apparently did not realize that he picked an easy-to-identify L-series number. He also installed a US style steering column cover and stamped the number on it, not realizing that those early cars never came that way.
It certainly explains the price. Some of these early Dinos are a mess.

Even by Dino standards, that trunk lid is a bit ill-fitting.

On a positive note the interior looks nice, if not exactly accurate.

From my limited exposure to this car I would say that the buyer bought shiny paint and plump seats. Everything looks incorrect on that car so lets hope that it is a good driver and the new owner just does not care to show it.

If it was restamped, someone did a good job on this SN stamping.
The steering column number was obviously done by someone with little skill and not believable..

That engine comp chassis stamp looks too perfect to me...certainly when compared to my 71 M-Series.

Note that the surrounding paint is consistent and even whereas the paint on the adjacent section shows signs of chipping...very suspect IMHO.

The serial number portion is done with fresh stampings and the 246 gt portion is older, or so it appears.

The "4" stamping in 246 is different in style and design than the stamp in 00468.....

The rear curvature of the trunk lid is different than the body lines curvature.....

I think the "DINO 246GT" is original and the font appears deeper on the left and shallow on the right.
You can also see the thickness of the metal pad compared to the chassis structure it's welded to, it appears to have been ground or sanded down.

    Hello Lars,
the engine bay is clearly not from a M-series Dino

    Hello Matthias,

Do you refer to the two oil filler caps? I certainly missed that. Or, what other telltale differences are there in the engine compartments between an M and early E-series?

    Hello Lars,

well spoted, but more obvious is the E-series engine compartment light switch.

    ;-)

Ah, thanks, Matthias. I still can´t see it, but perhaps your monitor is brighter than mine. I take you word for it, though.
And it just goes to prove that we really need that compendium documenting all the detail changes...

I guess that all depends on who you ask.....

With the economy being unstable and several cars coming to the market at the present time, we shall see over the next months where the market is

After seeing the "barn find" Dino, I think a better deal was had than we all know or think. This car is pretty darn amazing.
