I'm going to flush the coolant in my 458. I see on several threads that the Glyclolshell recommended in the 458 owner's manual is not available anymore in North America. I confirmed it with Shell, as well. Seems it's all over the place what people are actually using.

Can anyone confirm if they have used this PEAK OAT Extended Life Pink Concentrate Antifreeze/Coolant for European Vehicles in a 458?

    Here is a link:

    Thanks.

When I flushed my 458 it had yellow coolant in reservoir I felt the simplest thing to do was just use Prestone extended life coolant 10 or 15 year and change it out at 5 year intervals. It has certainly performed well and shown no evidence of any overheating boil overs etc. I believe that's a reasonable product for all of the late model Ferraris and I haven't seen anything to the contrary. I did use Prestone G05 in the 430 however. It appears that the Prestone extended life was what was in mine when I purchased it. JMHO FWIW.

Thanks for the feedback. Yea, I hear you for sure on the Prestone. I've used it forever in my other cars. I'm just wanting check to make sure I get something with the correct specs for the 458.

To use what was in there originally - you can go to a VW dealer and buy the G12+ or just get Zerex g30 on amazon

    Spec is VW - TL 775 F

If you want to upgrade and plain to flush - you can go to G40 Zerex

Pour first a coolant cleaner like BG coolant system cleaner, it will remove both lime debris and rest of previous coolant.

Based off of my research here, I am going to be doing a coolant flush with Zerex G05

I am sorry but that is not a good choice

What model do you have ?

I have done plenty of independent research

I believe the G05 can hurt the heat exchanger

The G30 is the closest thing to original fill ..if not the same..the GO5 is not the same as stated in that thread .

I am not an advocate of cleaners in our cars .. unless the system has been neglected I would flush with distilled water. Deposits will form with neither using the wrong coolant, water. Given the age of this example and not hearing of neglect.. I would either drain and / or drain /flush

    Op

How does the coolant look right now ....that would make the decision of whether to flush or just drain

They have used Holts speed flush in the UK for longer than i can recall, does not damage hoses or any radiator. If its ok for aluminium it is fine.
Just dont use caustic soda as that will eat Aluminium with a cloud of white fumes, seen it done.

I flushed my 430 with water, then the speed flush etc. As we could not get the shell stuff, we used the prestone coolant. 1st time system had been flushed since build

IMO High quality flush coolant product will not harm your system at all, it is like a detox diet every year.

Oil and rubber debris coming from the coolant tubes when aging will accumulate with time, like it or not. Although Aluminum is very hard to rust, the combination of heat cicles and time, will bring lime and it reduces cooling efficiency.
