Vitaly Petrovhas been slapped with a five place grid penalty for the Korean Grand Prix for his part in the accident at the start of the Japanese Grand Prix.
The Renault driver crashed into Nico Hulkenberg's Williams shortly after the lights went out, sending both cars into retirement.
"I made a good start and managed to overtake Massa," said Petrov. "I was then going passed Hulkenberg with Heidfeld on my right when he started to move left and so I also had to move left to avoid him. Unfortunately I hit the side of Hulkenberg's car and this is why I crashed."

what about that whining Kraut, the second the race was 75% over his engine was dying and he was trying on that **** about it being "dangerous" !!!

He's a good driver when he's not crashing into someone (whenever he's behind !!) but this whining crap and then Marko kissing his arse in the pits

At least Webber admitted it was his mistake, Vettel, the big mommy's boy, would have pulled out the racer's excuse book (although I think he's used them all up and will have to start writing his own).

Webber's mistake was a bit ordinary to say the least, I'll bet he's feeling silly now, he does this for a living so should know how much throttle to feed in when that sort of step-out happens, looks like he used too much throttle (easy done for a weekend warrior but the F1 boys are on a different plane)

oh yeah, well done FA, :)

    Why the rolleyes?

It was embarrassing to hear these whimps complain about the conditions. For FNCK sake get on with the race. They have raced in worse conditions before.

F1 either needs to do a NASCAR and not race in the rain, or if it rains grow some balls and get on with the race.

LH appears to be the only driver with any balls, as he wanted to race, and yet strangely he did not do as well as his talking ... yet again ;).

Anyway I'm gutted for Mark :(.

Were you at the track? How do you know how good/bad the conditions really were? As Martian was saying at the end the camera makes it look brighter then it actually is.

Charlie Whiting has been doing it since 1997 I think he knows when it's safe or not. I'd rather F1 be embarrassed then another driver dead.

Anyway I know that all the whiners will keep watching F1 regardless of how embarrassing it gets. Usually the ones embarrassed are ones trying to defend their sport to ppl that don't follow it. NASCAR? no thanks you keep watching that snoozefest.

Yeah Lewis falling off the track after talking himself up was funny. He could of won that race after the bad Ferrari stop..

I'm gutted for Mark too but Kimi came from 3rd to win the title in 2007 and he is still 2nd in the title. It isn't over. He won Brazil last year. He also has the engine advantage.

    Alonso or Webber :D

What has the amount of light at the END of the race got to do with the conditions of the race at the start?

My point was they should have started the race on schedule, under safety car or not and just gone racing.
Charlie Whiting was asking the DRIVERS for their opinion. Their opinion was not factual because of their WDC position, ie. Webber did not want to race, LH did, etc. You will never get facts from drivers in this situation.

Also it was not the amount of water that was the so called problem it was the spray ... and guess what, you get spray whenever it rains, so again get on with the racing please.

Please note I am a New Zealander so I have had plenty of wet racing experience, and I have scared myself sh!tless in the process ... could not even see the end of my cars bonnet!!! Had to look out my side window and remember where to brake. I had no option of being a whimp over a microphone to the race director to ask the race to be called off because I didn't have such a device in my club car. Heck we weren't even racing for a WDC, just for fun ... and many cars got seriously bent that day, but they still had the balls to go out and race as amatures and then pay for their own repair bills afterwards.

Next F1 races will be cancelled if it rains ... how fncken pathetic.

I agree, Brundle comments were apt when he said so what if its raining, there is a race on, and you drive according to the conditions.

Yeah I meant that the conditions could of been worst then what the camera was showing us.

They did didn't they? They waited 10mins to give the teams time to change from inters to wets because the conditions had changed and after a few laps under SC they stopped it.

89 Oz GP was the same. They stopped it, Prost whined about the conditions being too dangerous and decided not to race any-more. Senna wanted to race on and he did and crashed out and I cheered.

Plenty of races have been stopped in the past due to the rain, it's not a a new phenomenon for the current gen of drivers.
There have been races stopped in the 90's/80's/70's due to bad weather. None of them had any balls either?

Unless you are referring to the crazy 50's and 60's. They were all mad

Yes he did but I somehow doubt he decides what happens in the race solely on what the drivers say on the radios, he isn't a one man show he communicates with everyone. Plus the radar was showing better weather was coming why not delay it if it makes for a better race.

Part of the radio communications IMHO is just for the show. We rarely hear the full conversations they just give us snippets.

This race went the whole distance, how is it pathetic? Yes it's possible that races can get cancelled you only have to go back 1 season to see this aka Malaysian GP 2009.

    safety is so over-rated :p

I remember Niki bailing out at Japan in 76 and Nezo calling him a whimp, bloody lovely way to treat someone who nearly died only weeks earlier

    From autosport

Red Bull Racing says it will consider before the Brazilian Grand Prix whether it now needs to impose team tactics between its drivers, amid pressure on it to throw all its weight behind Mark Webber.

On the back of a disastrous Korean Grand Prix, which saw both Webber and team-mate Sebastian Vettel retire from the race, the outfit's troubles let Ferrari's Fernando Alonso move to the head of the championship standings.

And with Vettel now 25 points adrift of Alonso, and 14 off Webber, Red Bull Racing could run the risk of handing the title to Ferrari if its drivers take points off each other.

If Vettel heads home a Red Bull Racing 1-2 in the final two races of the season, Alonso would still win the championship if he finished third in both races.

Although Red Bull Racing does not want to move Vettel into playing a supporting role for Webber just yet, team principal Christian Horner said after the Korean Grand Prix that the outfit may need to work out the benefits and pitfalls of using tactics from the Interlagos event.

When asked if the team would consider swapping positions between its drivers in Brazil to give Webber a bigger haul, Horner said: "I haven't had time to look at all the mathematics and scenarios, but it is something that we will look at pretty closely between now and Brazil.

"Obviously the objective for both of them is to be ahead of Fernando and Lewis, as we achieved in qualifying in Korea."

Despite opening up the prospect of a tactical approach to Brazil, Horner said it was too early to make Webber its number one driver.

"As you saw in this grand prix, the championship leader changed between three different drivers at three different points of the race, and we gifted Fernando Alonso 25 points, which is obviously frustrating.

"This championship will go to the last lap in Abu Dhabi I believe. Mark retains P2 in the championship and Sebastian has now dropped to fourth, but there is still only a race win between Sebastian in fourth and Alonso in the lead.

"And how many times have we seen this year the championship to and fro? So it is impossible to predict what will happen in Brazil and Abu Dhabi."

Despite the disappointment of its Korean GP, Horner says his team will regroup strongly for Brazil - where Webber won last year.

"Sometimes motor racing can be cruel," he said. "We saw the highs of it two weeks ago in Japan and we have seen the lows of it here and, as a team, we win together and we lose together. We will fight back strongly in Brazil."

It was unnecessarily delayed for something like 1/2 an hour (not sure of actual time). I sat there watching the TV with no racing happening (ie. stationary or puttering around behind a safety car) when it was obvious the conditions were no where near as bad as we have had in the past.
