    To solve we would need to know the mass of the car, velocity (how fast it was traveling), and the stopping distance (Over what distance did the car come to a stop after hitting the pole? (This helps determine the deceleration.)

    That said, I get your point.

    I don't know how much of a force of impact the tub would protect you from - apparently less than in the instant case.

    In the immortal words of Jeremy Clarkson. “Speed never killed anyone. Suddenly become stationary, that’s what gets you.”
    Having spent about 6 years on a rescue squad, I can tell you trees don’t move- the acceleration (in the negative vector) was rapid. The human carnage after hitting a tree is brutal.

    The tub is just around the cabin and front structure. The rear subframe is still made of metals and bolted onto the tub right behind the firewall. From the pic, it seems like a large section of the rear subframe was ripped off the tub, but also the tub had cracked on one side as well. Heavy heavy impact.
