http://www.motorcycledaily.com/01september05_yami2006.htm http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2005/Sep/0501001yamaha.htm When the original R6 came out, 15,500 rpm was unreal. Kawasaki has their ZX-6RR with a 16,500 redline for 2005, and was the king of rev. Now the new R6 will be completely new and has a redline of 17,500 rpm. On a bike that idles, doesn't overheat in traffic, has a warranty, etc. All for under $9k. Unbelievable. I like twins, but this one with a pipe will be as close to an F1 sound you can get.
To bad I hate the R series, ugly ass bikes IMO, plus there the most uncomfortable of tehe big 3. I much prefer the Kawi looks, and they always seem to lead in performance. Big revs don't mean crap if there is no power to be had up there anyway.
To each is own..... I think the kawi (newer) bikes are ugly as hell....... Big revs along with big HP are signs of develpoment.. Yamaha has come a long way in the past number of years... Kawi is just now catching up
That is amazing. I want to look into this bike. I am sure lots of kids are running down to their dealers, and putting their name on the list. - Must be a lot of fun.
how many of you have actually hit the 10 000 rpm ...(let alone 15 000rpm) in a 900+ bike.... in 4th or higher gear...?
As a former owner of an origional R6 in 99', my personal experience is that revs are tons of fun on a track, and this one is going to RULE!!!!!!!! Lately I have been thinking of a twin, but this one is throwing that all out the window and making me lust for the Yam again. And I see they finally fixed the front tire, I don't know why they ever had that 60 series on there before.
I hate to be superficial, but having a good looking bike is also important for me. This one is just SOOO ugly. Is Chris Bangle designing bikes now?
Hmm, I kind of like the focused look of it, definately screams out that its meant to be ridden, not to be seen ridden. used 916's and 996's are the way to go for looks, every time I see one in the street it has a crowd around it, this one is for thrashing, and I can't wait to do it!
It is ugly but I WANNA HEAR THE SOUND! Aftermarket exhaust will also make it nicer. Any sound clips availabe?
What was the previous R6 redline? higher than most 600s already - like 15 with a power peak of ~110 at about 13.5? 17,500 has got to absolutely awesome! Even with a conservative rpm vs power estimate it's gotta peak at 125 @ ~16,000?
Almost every day... You (with respect) live in the wrong country. The german border is 47 miles from here.. The last bike I owned was a Suzuki GSXR1000. Wheelies in 3rd without the clutch.
Lets see... I always hit 10,000, and 15,000.... Oh yeah, btw, we're not talking about a literbike, which doesn't even have a redline of 15,000. Also, why would you need to hit that in 4th gear only?
Front straight at CA SPEEDWAY 10,500 in 5th shift to 6th and just break 160ish MPH before braking for T1 chicane The new R6 is the business. I'll be test riding one when they arrive, might just beat it senseless as a track bike and "enjoy" the 996
Coming from someone who origionally bought the first generation R6 as a first bike, I would say its dangerous, but not impossible. Fact is, if you run into a wall at 60mph, it doesn't matter if you are on a hayabusa or an EX250, it all hurts the same. In fact, I would venture to guess that the powerband on the new 6 is going to be rather peaky, meaning if you keep the revs down you should be fine. If you are just into cruising/posing etc then it really doesn't matter what you buy so long as it fits you. However, I bought my bike with the intention of hitting tracks, carving corners etc, in that regards an R6 would not be an ideal first bike, too twitchy, things can happen real fast and historically they have been a super responsive bike, if you don't have to skills when those situations come up, you could end up sliding up the street. Better to start on something more forgiving.
An R6 is an extremely sensitive bike compared to more rational bikes for beginners. I do not think it is a very good idea to start on one.
*raises hand in the back of the room* ridden a couple of 1000's out on the Salt at Bonneville. Hell, I've hit red line in 6th gear. Held it there for a while too. Only let off long enough to let the rear wheel gain traction again, then screw it back on. Try Willow Springs... if ya got the stones, ya hold it WFO in 5th or 6th (depending on size of yer stones) through Turns 6-7-8. Full lean, knee on the ground, heading towards redline? Nothing like it (cept maybe flying an F-16 a few feet off the ground). Mucho funo on my old FZR400, terrifying on my Gixxer 750, absolutely insane on a 1000. My 2004 R6 is a boat load of fun on the track. 10k+ revs? Yep. Power starts at 8k and build logarithmically on up to redline.
