Yeah, I know, not the most exciting cars in the world, but it is about time to replace my daily driver, and I have narrowed it down to these two cars.
I know I will need to drive each and see which one I like more, but anyone out there own either one and have an opinion ? Neither the TL nor the G35x changed much
until 2007, and that year is also a possibility, but I would rather get a 2005 or 2006 model year for the price/value. With the G35x I would be stuck with an automatic trans, but with the Acura I would opt for the manual 6sp. Thanks.

Why not test drive an EVO X or STi before making your final decision...they are in the same price range and are both really great performing cars...I've test driven an STi and it is a great car. I will test drive an EVO X GSR this weekend. I am getting an EVO X MR in the next few months to replace my current e60 M5 as my daily driver...I need the larger back seat of the EVO and I love the MR's S-AWD , DCS 6 speed tranny, Brembo 2 piece rotors, forged BBS wheels, leather and suede Recaro seats and interior trim . Plus, IMHO the new EVO X is simply a great looking sports sedan...it looks so much better than my M5 or any other 4 door sedan on the market for that matter... with the EVO X you get the practically of a 5 passenger sedan plus the performance of a Porsche all in one package for less than $40k... http://www.leftlanenews.com/mitsubishi-prototype-x-breaks-cover.html ... http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Features/articleId=122951

Not exciting? Have you driven the Infiniti? It'll knock the pants off most cars.

STI is a Pepsi can with turbo lag. Fun car when you're 18, but nothing beats a luxury car with over 300 all-motor horsepower...

It's really weird seeing older guys driving them. Sort of creepy.

Funny, we drove the Acura TL Type-S, Subaru Legacy GT Spec B, and looked at the Infinity all last week. Decided on Acura in Carbon Bronze Pearl. Got the Type-S because it was the only manual, not because of the extra HP or gadgets. We talked to some owners who said the Acura front wheel drive works well in the snow. My choice was the Subaru due to the AWD (and it was a 2007 at $9K off), but her money, her choice. We would not have looked at the Spec B if it was not discounted.

I think she would have got the Infinity if it was AWD with manual. Did not look at the STi or Evo; not her style.

You obviously have not driven the 2008 STi or EVO X which each have ~300hp and very little turbo lag...they have both moved upscale with leather and alcantra interiors too...although they do both use light weight aluminum body panels like a Pepsi can as well as most modern Ferrari's

Rather than you decide for her, why not let her look and decide if they are her style?

She did and that is what she said, not me guessing. I pointed them out on the lot, and she gave me the YGBSM look. We did not "look" at them as far as driving, getting brochures, etc.

G35x is a nice car....the TL really doesnt make that great use of its power since its far from light and is FWD. In fact I have driven the TL plenty of times as well as the TSX and would even say that the TSX is faster then the TL. Its also a lot more fun too!

I thought 2008 Infinitis were G37's instead of G35's...did that change?

The new ones are G37's however they did make for about a year the new design in a G35.

Incorrect, the coupes are G37's, sedans are G35's.

Here is mine, I have since added a factory spolier....

The sedans look so much better than the coupes.

But why, oh why, did they put that chrome lip on the rear? I can't stand it.

OBVIOULSY!!! I can't believe there is that much of a difference - what did they do?

As the previous owner of an Infiniti & current owner of a Ferrari, I can honestly say that the STI was a 100% let down. But this was a 2007 model. Without the amusing boost from the turbo I'd lump it in with a Geo Metro experience. Terrible engine sounds, no sound insulation, cheapo interior... sorry :(

Help me understand the logic here. MUST have a manual transmission, yet you went front wheel drive? Usually people who insist on a manual are performance junkies. FWD doesn't fit in with that. What gives?

She is unique, so that's why I keep her. Her priority was to get FWD or AWD with a stick. If we lived Outside (lower 48), RWD would be a player. She decided on the Acura, and it really is a great car, but most reviews do question why it is FWD. Not an issue with her.

Think of our criteria: FWD or AWD, stick, sedan, somewhat luxery, live in Alaska (it was negative 24 two weeks ago).

Interestingly, Acura Sat Nav does not work in Alaska, but Honda cars and Gullwing motorcyles do. All of the Type-S ones have Sat Nav, so they do not show up here; the entire Acura lot was automatic base model TLs. We had to look out of state.

Yeah I'm not a fan either. The spoiler I added helped to cover most of it.

Wow, you have EVO X's on the lots where you live already? While STi's have been here a few weeks already, EVO X's are not scheduled to arrive in the Atlanta area until later this week...

Do you have pics of your car with the spoiler?

I haven't seen any around here with one.

Both the 2008 EVO X and STi are entirely different cars than previous editions...more upscale materials in the interior such as leather and suede Recaro seats and door panels and more high tech under the hood and suspension...while I do not like the STi hatch design myself, it is still a find motorcar deserving of a look if you're in the market for a sub-$40k awd WRC homologated sports sedan. I too have owned an Infiniti before and found them to be an OK tarted up Nissan ... it was my wife's vehicle and she traded it for a Honda which we both like much better...

Congrats. Nice to see another Type-S owner who went for anything but black. :)

While I agree with you, I think there can be certain exceptions, and Acura's parent company seems to have produced many of those exceptions as Type Rs. :)
